Students will engage in reading activities throughout the day. We will read a variety of materials including fiction, non-fiction, fantasy and poetry. Students will have opportunities to read independently, with a partner, listen to read alouds and to participate in shared reading.
In grade two students will have the opportunity to write personal narratives, non-fiction chapter books, opinion pieces and poetry. Students will use a checklist and learn the valuable skills of editing and revising their writing throughout the year.
A solid foundation in phonics will help students to improve as readers and writers. Some of the phonics terms your student should be familiar with are: vowel, consonant, blend, digraph, vowel team, silent e, r controlled vowels and word endings.
