Class overview
The Grade 7 English Language Arts Course is designed, as the Provincial curriculum states, to reflect the emphasis on acquiring language and literacy skills through listening, speaking, viewing and representing, as well as reading and writing. Through their use of a wide variety of texts, students in Grade 7 English Language Arts continue to grow to become competent, confident users of the English Language Arts

1- Short Stories: Thank you Ma'am, Catch, The Hockey Sweater, Our Traditional Walrus Hunt, Ancestor Approved
2- Novels: Refugee (A. Gratz), The Giver (L.Lowry), Freak the Mighty (R. Philbrick)
3- Media Literacy
4- Archetypes in Literature
5- Film Classics and Cinematic Language:
6- Human Rights
7- Essay Writing
8- Poetry
Assessment: Assessment will be allocated to each of the curriculum outcomes. It may be rubric based. Self-assessment, peer-assessment, and formal teacher assessment strategies will be used. Student marks from assignments can be broken down as follows:
Throughout the year there will be other materials needed to complete individual and group projects. Every day, you as the student will need to bring the following materials:
Your notebook or binder
Sufficient supply of lined paper
Adequate writing materials; pencils are preferred over pens
Highlighters
All assigned reading materials
Personal reading book
2 Lined scribblers (to be used as a journal)
Colouring Utensils
Erasable Whiteboard Markers (optional for class collaboration projects)

Our Classroom Library
Within the classroom library of room 4, there are a variety of books from different peoples, perspectives, backgrounds and orientations. Our library is filled with many different voices; voices that want to be heard; voices that need to be heard. Students will always have the opportunity to read these different voices and experience them in a safe, respectful, and open environment.
