Ms. Shinney has been teaching since 2023, starting at Snowcrest Junior High, and moving to Orion Junior High where she’s been since 2024. In her time as a teacher, each program she’s overseen has grown by at least 80% each year. At Orion, she has overseen the creation of Jazz Band at Orion, and has elevated the band program to be receiving superior scores at festival. She loves being a staff member with the Weber High Bands, and has been since 2023.
She was also born and raised in Weber County, but eventually moved and went to school in Box Elder, where she participated in the Marching Band and was the Drum Major. After high school, she went to Southern Utah University to study Music Education to become a band director, something she’d been dreaming of since she was in junior high. While pursuing education at SUU, she was an active member of the SUU Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and a proud member of the Orchestra of Southern Utah. Her time at SUU led her to student teaching at Roy High School, eventually leading her back home in the Weber School District.
Besides making and teaching music, Ms. Shinney also loves spending time with her dog Magnum, hiking, snowboarding, visiting Southern Utah, camping, atv riding, boating, and binge watching a good TV show. Ms. Shinney also has a passion for Crocs, Coca-Cola, Disney, and the color purple.
