Auditions

Fremont High School Choir Auditions

Auditions will take place in April (typically the weeks following Spring Break) for A’cappella and  Silver Serenade.  Legacy auditions typically follow the beginning of May. All auditions are after school in the FHS Choir Room.  We want you to be a part of our amazing program.  By auditioning you are showing that you fully intend on being part of one of these ensembles next year.  Check your class schedule for next year to be sure you have enough room to participate.

9th  GRADE WOMEN AND MEN: Auditions will be held at each Rocky Mountain and Wahlquist Jr. High in April.  Those desiring to audition for A’cappella or Silver Serenade should find time to audition at the school where they are attending.  If an audition needs to be scheduled at Fremont High School, please contact Mr. Anderson via email ganderson@wsd.net

All returning choir members are expected to audition each year.  All current members of Legacy,  A’cappella and Silver Serenade are expected to audition each year.

If you are interested in Legacy Chamber Choir, you must first make A’cappella.  Additionally, you must have room in your schedule for both Legacy and A’cappella.  Members of Legacy Chamber Choir must be simultaneously enrolled in A’cappella.   There are no exceptions.

Audition Procedures

Sign-up for an audition time in the choir room (sign-up lists are typically posted after spring break), and do not be late for that time!  You must also have the necessary paperwork already filled out.  There will be an  audition form at your audition.

During the audition you will do the following.

Vocal Range Check:   You will be asked to sing a few scales so that we can check your vocal range and tessitura (how high and low your voice can sing beautifully). Be prepared to hear your voice do things that it maybe hasn’t done yet. Complaining by saying “can’t do that” or laughing because we are doing something different/new should not happen. Just do your best and be yourself!

Aural Memory Check:   You will be asked to sing several pitches that you hear from the piano. You will hear the pitches only once before you’re asked to sing them back to me. Listen carefully, and then sing back what you hear on a neutral syllable, like “La.”

Sight Reading:   You will be asked to sight-sing a few measures of a melodic line, using solfege syllables, pitch numbers, or a neutral syllable.
