Let's face it. For several years now College Football has need to be fixed. I was originally excited for the College Football Playoff, but it is not really a playoff, but rather the Alabama and Clemson Invitational (and I like Clemson!). I favor a system where there is absolutely NO human factor in who gets into the playoffs. I feel that my plan would offer every single team that plays in the Football Bowl Subdivision (128 teams) a chance each year to win a division title, a conference title, and have a shot at two National Championships (a Division 1 and a Division 2), and some CASH. First of all, here is how I would set up Division 1:

How Would the Season Work?

All 64 teams would play a 12 game season. Everybody in each division plays everyone else for a total of 7 games. Each team will then play two teams from its opposite division. That way, a player who stays all four years will have played every team in the conference at least one time. That takes the total to nine games. per year. The remaining three games will consist of one game against each of the other three leagues. It would take awhile, but eventually every team will have played a game against the whole 64-team field at least once every 16 years. My focus is to return college football to the regional sport as it once was, but still have the excitement of seeing teams you don't normally get to see. Plus, the SEC would FINALLY play a 9-game schedule as it did this year, and teams like Alabama would occasionally have to leave the South.

After the regular season, the champions from each division play against the other champion from their division. The winners of the 4 Conference Championship games will then play each other. I absolutely DO NOT want any computer or human rankings deciding who will play each other. Perhaps they could settle it by a coin flip (I am serious), or have a set rotating schedule, such as in the first year the PAC 16 plays the SEC, and the BIG 16 plays the ACC. The two winners will then move on to the National Championship Game, with the most games needing to be played being 15, just like LSU did last year.

How Would the Bowls Work?

First of all, no team will receive a bowl invitation in either Division 1 or 2, without having won a minimum of 7 games. We also hear a lot about the "New Year's 6", and I propose we move to the "New Year's 8". The bowls I would chose are: the Rose Bowl, the Las Vegas Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Peach Bowl, the Outback Bowl (in Tampa), and the Orange Bowl. All are in southern locations or at least have roofs on their stadiums. All of the bowls could at various times host Division 1 or Division 2 semifinals on a rotating basis. The days of bowl tie-ins such as the PAC 16 winner always going to the Rose Bowl, can now end. This would give the Division 2 teams some access to the Big Bowl money, as they should have a chance to earn some of it as well. The minor bowls can contract with whatever leagues they wish. I know I may have left some things out, and made some mistakes, but this is my first-draft effort.
