6th Grade Science, Social Studies, and Health

Welcome to Miss Cressman's class! I look forward to working with you this year!

The typical structure of my class is about 55 minutes of science each day, and 30 minutes of social studies. There will be times where this adjusts to fit in longer experiments and labs in science class or longer discussions or activities in social studies, but my hope is to keep your child exposed to content in both subject areas simultaneously.

In science this year, we will be covering:

  • Science, Technology, and Engineering

Grading and Classwork Expectations

I value creating a positive learning environment for your child. There are daily and weekly routines set in place to help your child succeed in my classroom. Each class period begins with an entry ticket that requires them to recall previous class information or direct them in thinking about future concepts. Responses to these entry tickets are shared aloud in order to reinforce the concepts and help those who may not have the concepts down yet. Each Friday, there is a Weekly Check In made up of a few of that week's entry ticket questions that is taken for a grade. This is my way of assessing your child's knowledge in order for me to best help them before a unit test.

Tests will be given on a unit by unit basis. Parents will be notified in advance of the test's date. I will work with my fellow teammates to make sure tests do not overlap and cause unnecessary stress on your child. Review games and study guides will be sent home to best prepare your child as well.

Some classwork assignments will be collected for completion. Others will be collected for accuracy. When these assignments are given, I will notify your child about the expectations. Overall, I expect your child to give their best effort in every assignment.
