Sight words are high frequency words that kindergarteners will most likely encounter while reading. Most of them cannot be read just by "sounding out the word", therefore, it is important your child can memorize and recognize these by "sight".

Students are expected to know all 12 word lists by the end of second grade. At the kindergarten level your child should know list 1 by the end of the year, however, we provide all 12 lists because some students are ready to move further.

It is easy to feel like your child may not be writing where they should be, however, they are most likely right where they need to be! This diagram shows how children begin to form letters and create meaning from both pictures and words. It is a long but important process!
