At Worthington Park, we focus on building music skills and understanding music concepts. We also work to make connections between music and history, music and culture, and music and our well-being.
Our curriculum is directly tied to our Ohio Standards for Fine Arts in Music, which can be found here.
We use strategies and resources from Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze-Eurythmics methodologies. Our lessons materials come from a variety of resources including the GamePlan and Purposeful Pathways curriculums.
MUSIC SKILLS
Reading, Writing (Notating and Composing), Improvising, Moving, Speaking, Playing
Our students use a variety of manipulatives to practice composition and music notation. Park Sharks play a large number of instruments in the music room, from glockenspiels and xylophones to guitar and world drums.
MUSIC CONCEPTS
Rhythm, Melody, Instrumentation, Form, Texture
Our students explore listening to many styles of music to identify the musical concepts above. We use music as a part of dramatic play and build confidence in sharing presentations with others, or taking leadership roles within a group. We also discuss music's role in history and how we can use music to create positive change in other's lives and in the world!
