Our Structure

Responsive

We use the principles of Responsive Classroom to guide our structure: "Responsive Classroom is an evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness" (1). I agree with Responsive Classroom in that our students must learn both social-emotional and academic competencies in order to be successful, listed here.

Equitable

As illustrated above, the equal classroom would provide all students with the same resources. This proves successful for some, but not all. An equitable classroom provides individuals with resources that they need in order to be successful, which may not look the same as others. A student may not need a support that another has, and students will develop an understanding of why this happens through equity.

Adventurous

As you may be able to tell, our community has a mountain and adventure theme. This reflects a community of growth through adventure, inquiry, and discovery. I believe that adventure can be found anywhere: on the playground, within a narrative, or even making a drawing. No matter what that looks like for each student, finding adventure is encouraged and fostered in our community. Let the adventure begin!
