What is SRSD?
Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) is a research-based approach to teaching writing. Students learn explicit strategies for planning, organizing, drafting, revising, and editing their writing.
About the Course
The 6th Grade SRSD Writing Course provides students with dedicated time to develop their writing skills through explicit instruction and guided practice. The course integrates writing with content students are learning in English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.

Writing Across the Curriculum
Students apply SRSD strategies to writing tasks connected to their core content areas. The course is designed to create consistency in how students approach writing across the school day.
What is SRSD?
Our district uses the POWER, TIDE-L, and C-SPACE strategies to help students become confident, strategic, and independent writers.
Why SRSD?
SRSD gives students a consistent, step-by-step approach to writing while helping them develop the strategies and confidence they need to become independent writers.
SRSD also teaches students to use positive self-talk to build confidence and persistence. Students learn to replace negative thoughts such as “I can't do this” with productive statements such as “I can use my strategy,” “I can take this one step at a time,” or “I know what to do next.”
Over time, these strategies help students become more independent writers who can approach challenging writing tasks with greater confidence and persistence.
