Welcome 5th Grade Families,

We hope you had memorable summers filled with quality family time. It has definitely been a year that we will never forget. The 5th grade team is eager to learn alongside their students again and it will be a busy 5th grade year, whether it be virtually or in person. As you know, we are not beginning the year in our classrooms so this will create new challenges for all of us. We understand that this is not ideal, but we will be there to support the students through every step of this process.

During our time together, students will continue improving their math skills from last year, as well as building on their knowledge of reading, writing, science, and social studies. Your support at home to provide a routine, encourage good study skills, and assist with computer support will be greatly appreciated. Please help your child set up an inviting learning area in the home that will have online access as well as a quiet space to work and partake in Google Meets. Please make their school supplies and writing materials easily available.

On a daily basis, the students will login at 8:55 for a LIVE Morning Meeting via Google Meet where attendance will be taken and the daily expectations will be reviewed. Students will have access to online teacher support periodically throughout the day. Each student will login to a Clever portal which will allow them access to many online resources and all of their Google platforms, including Gmail. Students will access all of their assignments via their Google Classroom. If your child needs a Chromebook, please contact the school immediately to work out a plan.

Our open communication is crucial to the level of support we can offer to the children in our classes. Please complete this 5th Grade Parent Survey so we can get to know you and your child better. We know you must have many questions that we hope to answer as we start this school year. We will be hosting a virtual parent meeting with all of you prior to the start of remote learning. More information regarding this meeting and start of school will be sent out in the near future via email. You are welcome to contact us with any questions or comments.

We will be in the Paxton Center School parking lot on Friday, September 11th from 8:30-10:00 to distribute materials and textbooks that will support online learning. We hope to see you all there and look forward to meeting you all. Class lists should be available on Monday, September 7th on Power School. Remote learning will begin on Wednesday, September 16th at 8:55 am which will be a half-day for students.

There will be many exciting new learning opportunities taking place in fifth grade and we can’t wait to get started. The 5th grade team knows this school year is going to be unlike any other, but we will continue to stay strong and get through this TOGETHER. Welcome back! We got this!
