Welcome to fifth grade! I am looking forward to all of the learning that will take place this year.
About Me: Hello! My name in Kimberly Graumnitz, I am 25 years old, and I live in Holden, Massachusetts. In 2016, I graduated from the University of Connecticut's School of Education with a Master's in Elementary Education. I recently completed my second full year of teaching as a 5th grade teacher at Paxton Center School in Paxton, MA. Prior to that, I was the 5th and 6th grade Math and Science teacher at Saint Anthony Elementary School in Fitchburg, MA.
Through my teaching I strive to bring subject matter to life for the students by designing interesting exercises and activities. I engage students through the use of technology, creative lesson plans, collaboration, hands-on activities and differentiation that all focus on engaging students' interests. I strongly believe in the importance of instilling a sense of self-worth among all students by making them feel that are an integral part of the classroom.
Class Dojo: This year, we will be using a classroom management tool called Class Dojo. Class Dojo is a great way for you to track your student's behavior and homework record at home. Through Class Dojo, students receive positive and negative behavior points throughout their school day. For example, when your student is on task in class, helpful, completes their homework, follows directions, etc, they will receive a positive Dojo Point. Students may receive negative Dojo Points for being off task, disrespectful, and for missing homework. The students must receive an overall percentage of 85% or more each week in order to participate in "Fun Friday".

Your child will bring home a sign up sheet on the first day of school to help you get connected to our class dojo page!
Homework: The students will have homework every night except for Fridays. The homework is intended to be quick review/reinforcement of the material we cover in class that day. I will initial the students' assignment notebooks each afternoon to ensure they are recorded the homework correctly. If your child is ever struggling on the homework please reach out to me!
Technology: In class, we use technology often. We have four computers and a Chromebook chart available for students to use in class. If a student wants to bring in their own piece of technology to use for research and typing please send them in with a note that verifies you have allowed them to bring it.
Powerschool Grades: Students' grades can be accessed through PowerSchool. Students will be given a number grade for assignments that corresponds with the selected Common Core State Standard. Scores will range from 1-4.
- A score of 1: Student need significant work before achieving the standard
- A score of 2: Student is progressing towards the standard
- A score of 3: Student has successfully achieved the standard
- A score of 4: Student is above grade level for the standard
