General Information
Q: What is the WRPS Virtual Campus?
A: The WRPS Virtual Campus is a new online learning pathway for students in Grades 7–12 starting in the 2026–2027 school year. It is designed to complement our traditional classrooms by offering a flexible, alternative learning environment that maintains the high educational standards and supportive relationships that define Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools.
Q: Who is the Virtual Campus designed for?
A: Online learning can be an excellent fit for many different types of learners. It is highly appropriate for students who:

Academics & Curriculum
Q: What curriculum does the Virtual Campus follow?
A: All courses offered through the Virtual Campus are fully aligned with the Alberta Education curriculum for Grades 7–12. High school students will earn credits toward their Alberta High School Diploma just as they would in a physical school.
Q: Can my child mix online learning with in-person classes?
A: Junior High students will be enrolled full time in the online program. High School students may have a mix of virtual and in-person classes.
Structure, Instruction, & Support
Q: Who teaches the online courses?
A: Courses are taught by dedicated, certified WRPS teachers who provide direct instruction, grading, feedback, and academic support.
Q: Is the program fully self-paced, or are there set schedules?
A: The Virtual Campus features a structured online environment with clear expectations, milestones, and timelines to keep students on track. Learning will include a blend of:
Synchronous learning: Live, interactive sessions with teachers and peers.
Asynchronous learning: Self-paced modules and independent coursework.
Q: How will parents know how their child is progressing?
A: Communication is a cornerstone of our program. Teachers will provide regular updates and maintain consistent communication between students, teachers, and families to ensure accountability and track academic goals. PowerSchool gradebooks will be updated regularly with current grades and comments.
Roles & Expectations
Q: What is required for a student to be successful?
A: While the Virtual Campus offers incredible flexibility, online learning requires a high level of commitment, organization, and active daily participation. WRPS will provide ongoing monitoring and interventions to support students, but students must be prepared to manage their time effectively.
Q: What is the role of the family?
A: Families are our vital partners. You know your children best, and you will play an important role by establishing a dedicated learning space at home, encouraging regular participation, and ensuring the timely completion of coursework.
Q: What are the technology requirements?
A: Students will need access to a device (Chromebook or PC) with reliable internet. A camera with a microphone will be needed for live lessons.
