GCSE music students must submit two performances:

• a solo performance (can be as part of an ensemble but must be a significant part that features in much of the performance if this is the case)

• an ensemble performance (with at least one additional performer. For example, pianist and singer)

Below are some examples of the very best solo and ensemble performance recordings from 2014. We take great pride in producing authentic performances and we always strive to avoid backing tracks unless absolutely necessary. It goes without saying that given the strict guidelines from GCSE examination boards, none of these recordings utilise any studio trickery apart from some reverb, and mixing techniques in order to provide a balanced recording where the performer can be clearly heard. Recording sessions can be intense, often running up until 5.00 to 6.00pm but the excitement of having three ukulele players, one bassist, two vocalists, one on piano and a drummer (on one evening in 2017) all striving for the perfect performance is hard to put into words.
