Jacob Hespeler has many clubs and opportunities to get involved in, one of those being the JHSS Climb Club. It runs every Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Core Climbing Gym, and on every last Tuesday of the month they have a competition with the climb club from St. Benedict’s.
Tuesday November 6th was their first competition, where they absolutely crushed it! It was a close one, only a few points separating them from the St. Benedict's Climb Club, but they managed to take the win! In a few weeks, they’ll be back for a rematch on the 28th of December. Good luck!
The JHSS climb club is also looking for new members! All skill levels are welcome. If you love to climb, or are interested in trying rock climbing, then the Climb Club may be the place for you! The Climb Club is run by Mr. Boland and Mrs. Bird.
We are looking forward to seeing new members!

The Arts Clubs at JHSS consist of the dramatic arts, music, and visual arts. The drama, music ensembles, and art club all began right away in September. Each club took part in club day on September 27th, which brought new students of all skill levels to the clubs that were looking for a way to step out of their comfort zone, or just try something new.
Drama Club
The Drama Club began with the production of their Halloween play. Many of the students from the previous year returned to the club to improve their skills with acting and production. But there were also a lot of new students who had joined, hoping it would be a fun experience. Run by Mrs. Lantz, the drama club has a reputation of creating original, suspenseful, and dramatic plays that shock viewers. They will put the murder mystery play on during the fall, and will put on another play in the spring. Last year, their play, Limbo, about friends in the afterlife, brought many people joy at the Arts Night. Meeting three times a week, they are inching closer to the show date for their up-and-coming murder mystery play.
Music Ensemble
The Music Ensembles Club started practically the day school started. Having songs consisting of jazz, concert, and percussion chosen in advance from June of last year that they practiced, both the recurring students and the new students learned and improved at various instruments, looking forward to upcoming performances. The music ensembles, run by Mrs. Lehmann-Skelton, have taken part in the Music and Lights festival consecutively for two years since the Covid-19 pandemic, and are performing in the festival again on December 6th. They also participate in regional, provincial, and national competitions. The club has quadrupled in size, going from just six people to well over twenty.
Art Club
The Art Club, run by Mrs. Cristo, began once again in September. So far, the members have created ink drawings, continuous line drawings, Halloween/Autumn clay sculptures, and, if they want, students have created their own miscellaneous drawings or art pieces. Last year, the Art Club made poppies for the Remembrance Day assembly that were displayed in the trophy case outside the cafeteria. As of right now, they are beginning to create stained glass suncatchers. Students are also starting to paint murals on lockers around the school. The club is open to anyone who wants to participate in the arts, and they meet every Thursday at lunch in room 304.
