Here you will find information on different classes, important dates, and announcements. The navigation bar at the top of the page will take you to specific sites for each of your child's teachers. Below, you will find information on supplies needed for each class. Please also be sure to familiarize yourself with the Health and Safety section of the website. Please take a moment to complete the Back to School Survey at the bottom of this page to help us get to know your child.

Welcome to STJ Intermediate 2020/21

September 2020

Dear Family,

We, the intermediate teachers at St Jacobs Public School are delighted to have our students returning to us in person this September. We know it has been a trying 6 months for many and hope to be an important piece of establishing routine, normalcy and warmth in the lives of our students. Alongside all that is going on in the world right now, for our students, grade 7 and 8 are special years as they are the senior members of our school community. We are excited at the group of individuals returning as the leaders this year; we know they will rise to whatever challenges are set out this year and help us create a safe, caring school community.

We have great hopes and dreams to run a variety of field trips this year. Unfortunately, circumstances are such that none are possible in the foreseeable future. We will continue to monitor the situation and will plan special events such as trips once they are allowed. We will communicate to both our students and parents as soon as we are able to in order to allow families to plan finances and family schedules.

Some other Covid changes to the intermediate rules this year include:

  • Students are required to stay at school during both nutrition breaks.

Other requirements include:

Your child will remain in one classroom all day so materials will be in their desk as they need them. They will be provided with subject specific duotangs; please do not bring a large binder. A half-inch binder with some lined paper will suffice. In general students will need:

  • pencils, earphones, a glue stick, calculator, pencil crayons, water bottle, pencil case.

  • Language - Students are required to have 2 composition notebooks (minimum 180 pages). Students will be provided with their own set of post-it notes and highlighters but are welcome to bring their own.

Mathematics - Students are required to have a geometry set (protractor & compass).

Art - Students are required to have an 8.5 x 11 sketchbook with a minimum of 100 pages. Grade 8 students will be starting their year with photography, cameras will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own digital camera or memory card if they prefer.

Physical Education – Gym will be different this year. The change rooms are not accessible at this time. This means students must wear clothes they can do gym in, often outdoors. This means a hat, sunscreen, raincoat, or even a sweatshirt may be necessary. Please check the weather and bring or wear what you need to be outside no matter the weather. There will be no indoor only shoes. Deodorant every day is particularly important at this stage of their lives. Thanks in advance for helping your child track all of this!

Please clearly label items with the child's name.

If finances make any of these requests too difficult for your family, do not hesitate to contact either of us and we will work with you to find a solution. If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please contact us at your convenience.

Please note that we will be covering Geography in the first term and History in the second term.

We hope that the upcoming school year will be an exciting and rewarding time for you and your child.

Sincerely,

Ms. Hemingway & Mr. Soehner
