Each day, encourage your child to get dressed (including shoes) independently. Cuddle and read lots of books together. Talk about the letters in your child’s name and provide him/her with chances to see it in print form.
Have your child practise using their lunch box and lunch containers regularly. When buying a backpack, consider buying a full sized bag that is large enough to hold a lunchbox, large library books, and copious amounts of artwork!
Most materials are provided by the school but it is helpful to have the following list of items:
2 pairs of velcro shoes - one pair for inside the classroom and one pair as outdoor shoes
large backpack, lunchbox and water bottle
splash pants, rubber boots, raincoat - we play outdoors even on rainy days!
spare pair of clothing to be left at school in a labelled ziplock bag
We typically start eating about 10 minutes before the rest of the school (about 11:10am) so that children have lots of time to eat, drink and socialize with their peers.
Each class will have a DECE in the classroom to encourage and help them with their lunch. Please have your child practise using their lunch box and containers this summer so they are familiar with them by the fall. Help is always provided but we try to encourage independence when possible!
Our goal is to encourage your child be as independent as possible in the washroom. We are experts at noticing “the pee dance” and will encourage children who might need reminders throughout the day.
If an accident occurs, we will help them get changed and send the soiled clothing home in a plastic bag. Please return a new set of clean clothes to be kept at school.
Please label every single item your child brings to school. If something is found without a label, it’s very difficult to track down the owner.
The more you label, the less you will lose! We will always peek inside lost mittens, shoes, socks, hoodies etc to see if we can find a name before sending them down to the lost and found!
Pack enough food for a hearty lunch and a healthy afternoon snack. Items like cheese, crackers, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables or even leftovers in a thermos are great options.
For allergy reasons, please do not send edible treats for the class without speaking to an educator ahead of time.
Please send a reusable water bottle that has a securely closing lid. It's never a fun surprise to find a dripping backpack at the end of the day!
Also, please note that we are a NUT-FREE Zone.
We’re excited to announce that our school uses School-Day, an online portal that lets us instantly share school news and events. School-Day can be accessed from any web browser and gives you real-time access to up-to-date information, and the ability to:
Complete instant online payments
View announcements, news, and class information
Approve permission forms instantly online
Register your child for extracurricular events, and sign up for parent/teacher interviews
School-Day is a great tool for staying connected with what is happening at New Dundee, and will give you an inside look at what your child will experience next year.
To register please use the secure match key code found in the email you will receive from the school. Parents will create a School-Day account for themselves at https://www.school-day.com/, register and then you can add your child by entering their secure match key code (as you will not have an OEN number yet for your child). You will also have an opportunity to do this at our Welcome to Kindergarten night in late May.
Please call or email the school for assistance if you have any questions, concerns, or difficulty with registration. 519-696-2296 ext 3 or ndd@wrdsb.ca
