Mrs. Brown's

Head Quarters

Welcome!

My name is Mrs. Brown and I am a teacher at Forest Heights Collegiate Institute! If you're coming to my website, I'm probably your English teacher this year!

Welcome to Forest Heights Collegiate Institute, or Welcome Back! It's been a crazy past few months, but I am so excited to have you in my classroom.

Since you're here, you probably want to know a little more about Mrs. Brown. I went to Forest Heights Collegiate when I was your age - 9-4 is actually my old classroom! I have a husband and 2 miniature Labradoodles: Murphy and Hershey. I like to play video games, read, walk my dogs and watch sports.

I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2012 with my Honours of Bachelor Arts Degree in English and Philosophy with a focus on Social Sciences. From there, I went back to Laurier to achieve my Bachelor of Education (basically a fancy way of saying Teacher's College). I also have my Masters of Education from Wilfrid Laurier University and I hope to one day work towards my PhD. I have different teachables: including English, philosophy, family studies, social sciences, guidance, English as a Second Language (ESL) and special education. My areas of interest are Mental Well Being (Mental Health) in the Classroom and exploring Social Justice. I am a HUGE believer that you need to be a life long learner, so I always try to take new courses to expand my abilities.

I focus on every student understanding mental wellness and teach different approaches to managing stress and finding their own voice to advocate for themselves. Mental Wellness is so important and is so often forgotten about! My teaching philosophy has always focused on building around the learner. I do my best to take a student informed approach which prioritizes Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs so that every student feels safe and comfortable when in my class. If they are in a safe space, learning will happen! As Miss. Frizzle always said "Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!"

If you would like to contact me, please email me at brittany_brown@wrdsb.ca
