What is Forest School?
Forest School is an outdoor-based learning model that takes our students out of the traditional classroom and into local natural spaces. It is a student-led, play-based program that encourages children to engage with the natural world through regular, repeated visits.
Focus & Regulation: For students with ADHD, the open environment reduces sensory "noise" and provides the physical movement needed to improve concentration.
Resilience: Children learn to manage risks and solve problems in real-time, such as navigating uneven terrain or building structures.
Critical Thinking: We move from abstract concepts to hands-on discovery. Instead of reading about gravity, we observe it by stacking stones or other related activities.
Social Skills: Nature provides a neutral space where students practice turn-taking, collaborative play, and empathy for living things.
Loose Parts Play: Using sticks, mud, and stones to develop fine motor skills and creativity.Â
Nature Observation: Practicing patience and focus by watching wildlife or seasonal changes.
Collaborative Building: Developing communication and teamwork by building "forest shelters."
Dress for the Weather: We go outside in rain, shine, or snow. Please ensure your child has "play clothes" that can get muddy.
Layers are Key: Waterproof outer layers and sturdy boots help your child stay comfortable and focused on learning.
Ask Questions: When your child comes home, ask them about their experience!
