Grade 10 Careers Course Outline
This is a compulsory grade 10 course.
This course teaches students how to develop and achieve personal goals for future learning, work and community involvement. Students will assess their interests, skills, and characteristics and investigate current economic and workplace trends, work opportunities, and ways to search for work. The course explores postsecondary learning and career options, prepares students for managing work and life transitions, and helps students focus on their goals through the development of a career plan.
This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond. See the Learning Services website for more information.

Leadership and Peer Support (TA) - Grade 11

This course gives students the opportunity to be a leader and a role model in a junior class and help other students experience success. You will be helping out in a specific class with a supervising teacher in an area that matches your specific skills. You will develop and apply skills in communication, interpersonal relations, coaching, teamwork and conflict management.

Applied Journalism - Yearbook
Do you want to help create the school yearbook? This is the course for you! This course covers many different skills - from photography basics, colour theory, graphic design and creating pages for the yearbook! No prior experience is necessary - students willing to try something new, learn new skills and create a memorable yearbook for EDSS are welcome!
This course will help students combine the skills required for and knowledge of student leadership to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research, students will analyse the connections among diverse subjects and disciplines; develop information literacy skills in analysing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating information; and become aware of a variety of resources and viewpoints on leadership issues. They will also examine their own learning styles, relate their inquiries and research to real-life situations, and investigate career opportunities in new disciplines.
Dual credit programs through the WRDSB are ministry-approved programs that allow students, while they are still in secondary school, to take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and/or a post-secondary certificate, diploma, degree or a Certificate of Apprenticeship

GLD2O is designed to help students deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts that will be important for their learning when transitioning between MTH1W and MPM2D, while gaining necessary tools and skills for the workplace of tomorrow. Through integrated activities related to career exploration, experiential learning, and entrepreneurship, students will have an opportunity to improve their understanding of foundational mathematical concepts and skills. This course will be an interactive and engaging experience to help students gain transferable skills for continued learning and work.
