Spheros

About Sphero:

Sphero is a robotic ball that can be coded with an iPad or Chromebook. It connects via bluetooth and the SpheroEdu app allows the programmer to code the Sphero. The app is available on all WRDSB iPads.

Sphero robots last about 1 hour when fully charged, they take 3 hours to recharge. Spheros should never be left on the base beyond 3 hours as this will wear out the battery prematurely. If you are storing them for a period of time, fully charge them before putting them away.

Connecting to a Device

With older Spheros (white) the device must be connected via bluetooth settings on an iPad, or Chromebook.

With the newer Spheros (SPRK+), open up the SpheroEdu app and hold the Sphero close to the device. The app will handle the bluetooth connection automatically. If it doesn't connect, make sure bluetooth is enabled on your device.

Charging

When placing the Sphero on the base to charge, ensure the heavy side is down so the correct contact is made between the battery and the charger.

If the Sphero is flashing red, that means the battery is low (it lasts about an hour) and will require a 3 hour charge on the base. You will see a blinking blue light on the base when the Sphero is charging.

Resetting the Sphero

If the Sphero won't connect, or is already connected to another device, it will need to be reset to allow a new bluetooth connection. Place the Sphero on the charging base, push and hold the reset button for 3 seconds. The Sphero will flash through some colours to indicate it is reset.

It is important to disconnect the bluetooth connection (forget this device) after the activity is completed.
