By volunteering, you have a responsibility to the District (students, staff, parents, fellow volunteers), to adhere to certain rules of behavior and conduct. The purpose of these rules is to be certain that the learning environment is not compromised. Volunteers should also become familiar with the specific rules at the site at which they volunteer. Generally speaking, we expect each volunteer to act in a mature and responsible manner at all times. District standards of conduct and personnel policies include, but are not limited to:
Observing safety rules at all times and using common sense in operating any equipment.
Treating fellow volunteers, teachers, students, parents, and administrators with respect and kindness.
No possession of any type of firearm, weapon, or explosive devices, on District premises.
The maintenance of a drug-free workplace. Employees and volunteers are prohibited from being intoxicated or under the influence of controlled substances while volunteering; use, possession, or sale of a controlled substance in any quantity while on District premises (except medications prescribed by a physician, which do not impair volunteer performance) will result in immediate dismissal from volunteer service.
This is a tobacco - free district. Tobacco products, including vaping devices, shall not be used on District premises.
No soliciting or selling of products, services, etc. on District property without prior written approval of the Superintendent or designee.
Refraining from discussing religion/political beliefs while volunteering.
Maintaining the confidentiality of all personal and privileged information.
Professional Boundaries and Interactions with Students
Professional Boundaries and Interactions with Students
The District is committed to maintaining safe, supportive, and professional learning environments for all students. Volunteers play an important role in supporting our schools and are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries in all interactions with students.
The District's Board Policies on Maintaining Appropriate Adult-Student Interactions (BP 4119.24, BP 4219.24, and BP 4319.24) establish the District's expectations for appropriate interactions between adults and students. These policies expressly apply to employees, interns, volunteers, contractors, and other adults who interact with students. Accordingly, volunteers are expected to comply with the professional-boundary requirements established in these policies.
Volunteers should maintain appropriate professional relationships with students at all times, whether interactions occur on or off school grounds and whether they occur during or outside the school day. Volunteers should exercise sound judgment and avoid conduct or communications that could reasonably be perceived as inappropriate, overly personal, or outside the volunteer's role.
In particular, volunteers are expected to:
Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with students.
Communicate with students only as reasonably necessary to perform their authorized volunteer duties.
Use school-approved methods of communication when communicating with students in connection with volunteer activities.
Avoid private or personal communications with students through personal social media accounts, text messaging, email, or other electronic platforms unless specifically authorized by the District and consistent with District policy.
Avoid establishing personal, secret, or exclusive relationships with individual students.
Respect students' privacy and personal boundaries.
Avoid interactions with students that could reasonably be interpreted as romantic, overly familiar, or otherwise inappropriate.
Follow all District policies and procedures governing interactions with students, including BP 4119.24, BP 4219.24, and BP 4319.24 – Maintaining Appropriate Adult-Student Interactions, and any related administrative regulations.
Immediately report concerns regarding inappropriate conduct or boundary violations through the appropriate District reporting process.
Authority and applicability: The District's Board Policies on Maintaining Appropriate Adult-Student Interactions expressly identify volunteers among the adults subject to the District's professional-boundary expectations. Volunteers are therefore responsible for reviewing and complying with the requirements of these policies. Copies of the policies are available through the District's Board Policies or may be obtained from the school or District office.
Failure to comply with these expectations may result in removal from volunteer service and/or other appropriate action consistent with District policy and applicable law.
