About the Program
The Wakefield elementary schools library program works to promote an appreciation of literature and provide a foundation for using libraries, information resources, and technology in lifelong learning. The library program supports academic and recreational reading, as well as the development of research, technology, and 21st-century learning skills. Over the course of the school year, students will engage in learning experiences focused in all of the following content areas:
Information Literacy (inquiry / research skills)
Digital Literacy (digital citizenship + tech skills)
Computer programming (algorithms + block based coding)
Literature
Makerspace
Students visit the library at least once a week for library media class and have the opportunity to check out books.

Borrowing Books
Students in Kindergarten may borrow one book at a time from their library.
Students in grades 1-4 may borrow two books at a time from their school library.
Lost or Damaged Books
There are no overdue fines, however lost or damaged books should be replaced. (watch those water bottles in backpacks!)
Book replacement options:
Buy a copy of the same book in the same format (i.e., a new hardcover book to replace a lost hardcover) and give to the library.
ORSend a check in to the library for the amount of the book and the library will replace it. Checks are to be made payable to Wakefield Public Schools.
