Spring Into Wellness 2022

We are working to REBUILD following COVID-19. We will be offering our SPRING INTO WELLNESS when we return from Spring Break!!

See Ms. Becker or Ms. Vetter if you have any questions.

WPHS is Growing a Building of Wellness

WPHS has a Wellness (WELCO) committee designed to not only support the mission of the District Wellness committee, but also work with other organizations within the school and the community that promote the ideals of our committee. The high school WELCO committee convenes once month to discuss a monthly action plan that incorporates our school goal of promoting activity among the students and staff.

Determining OUR Path

In January 2019 we started a Student WELCO team that allowed students to determine our path. We had a focus group to see what was important to the students. From there we began hosting a meditation group each week as well as a healthy lifestyle challenge. The meditation group did a variety of meditations to help them focus, relax or rejuvenate. The group participating in the healthy lifestyle challenge worked to increase the number of healthy eating habits students engage in. In April, some of our students decided they would like to work on personal growth as we move toward summer. For the month of May we are working on a personal growth book study.

Homecoming 2019

WPHS WELCO participated in the homecoming parade as part the HS Activities float. We were giving out gold fish instead of candy. Staff were walking and we had a younger student riding. In 2018, Woodland Park School District was recognized as a top healthy school in the sate.

Staffulty Self Care Fall 2019

We kicked off the school year by hosting a Self Care Class with taco bar lunch for all new and returning staff. Everyone was able to leave with a fully belly, as well as the ability to have assessed their current self care practices, gain ideas from others and walk away with a complete self care plan for the new school year!!

Empowerment is Awesome!!

Friday, May 3rd Manitou Springs School District and Woodland Park School District teamed together to train students on movement in the classroom, how important movement is and how the brain works.

After the training students will actually join our new and returning teachers in the fall and go to all our schools and help train the teachers during beginning meetings on Brain Training.

Students are excited to learn about how the brain works and why movement is important throughout the day.

Amanda Brantley and Alexa Garrick came down from Fort Collins to empower our students in their learning as well as empowering them to share with adults and students across the district.

Woodland Park had 23 students and Manitou brought 12 students. Julie Cutting, WPSD Wellness Coordinator, coordinated this event.

Opportunities to try something new!

Throughout the year, we offer Harvest of the Month (HOM) in which students are able to try fruits and vegetables that student may or may not have tired before. Some have included: avocado, legumes, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and blueberries.

FALL 2018 Halloween CHOPPED CHALLENGE

Staff and Students joined forces and competed against each other in our own "Chopped" challenge. Mrs. Cunningham's ProStart cooking class divided into teams and each team chose a staffulty to join them. Mrs. Cunningham then put together a staffulty team as well. Everyone created their best dishes with their secret basket of ingredients and after each round a team was "chopped" from the competition. The rounds included: appetizer, entree and dessert. Thanks to many community businesses the winning team was awarded gift cards. Judges were local chefs from the area. Superintendent Steve Woolf gave a FABULOUS history lesson with each dish. The judges were sad to chop his team after the entree round, as they would miss out on his riveting history lesson. In the end, Principal Kevin Burr and his team of students (Haley Prater, Granger Kinne, and Jessica Tanis) took first place. Way to go team!!!

      • The Spring Fling Chopped was a success! Judges, Chef Marvin from the Southern Lily and Chef Chris from TAPAteria said this was the best Chopped yet ad it was very organized, ran smooth, and everyone seemed to have fun!

      • Pictured Above: Teacher/Student Group winners were Stacy Roshek (P.E. Teacher), Kristen Zeller (Front Office Attendance Secretary), Devon (Sr. ProStart 2), and Sebastian.
