OTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFERINGS
Audience: All Special Education Teachers and Related Service Providers (Required), Administrators (Recommended)
Description: This interactive workshop will guide educators in strengthening IEP quality and implementation through hands-on practice and collaboration. Participants will learn to write standards-aligned goals, design and document effective Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), and apply practical progress monitoring tools to track student growth. The session will also highlight strategies for facilitating student-centered, collaborative IEP meetings that build strong, solution-oriented teams.
Pre-Work: Participants must bring an IEP for a current student to use during guided activities and reflection.
Presenters: DCIU & WPSD
Time: 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Location: Penn Wood High School (GAC), Auditorium
Audience: Elementary General Education Teachers
Description: This professional development session focuses on the Three Reads Protocol, a strategy designed to give students better access to complex content. The protocol is a close reading of a passage, word problem, text, or task, increasing understanding by focusing on a different component with each of the three reads. The three reads are carefully structured to scaffold content and reduce cognitive load while still maintaining grade-level standards. This session will provide examples across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies and equip participants to describe, participate in, and implement the protocol in their classrooms.
Presenters: Instructional Facilitator Team
Time: 9:45 AM - 11:00 AM
Location: Aldan Elementary, In Your IPP Room (See Above)
Audience: Secondary Science Teachers (Middle School, Environmental Science, and Biology)
Description: During this workshop, participants will collaborate in implementing pre-developed assessments or creating new, high-quality assessments aligned with their curriculum and the STEELS standards. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how to use data to inform their instruction and with practical tools to better assess student learning.
Pre-Work: Before the live session, educators should meet with their school's science department or PLC to conduct a guided, self-paced virtual exploration of FireFly diagnostic data (link to directions). This collaborative pre-work will allow you to analyze your student data and prepare for the workshop.
