Meet your teacher!

Hi! My name is Mrs. Morgan Varnado! I am so excited that I will be your 2^nd grade teacher. It is going to be a great year full of new friends, new adventures, and new discoveries! This will be my fourth year teaching second grade at Franklinton Primary School. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Southeastern Louisiana University (Go Lions!) and my masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from WGU. I was honored to receive teacher of the year for our school and for the district last year. I am married and grew up in Washington Parish in a huge family of educators. My husband and I have 2 big yellow labs and a baby boy on the way.

Green Folders

Your child’s green folder will be checked in the classroom every morning by me. Please check it when they get home for any important information. Please check and keep the “Week at a Glance” which has the spelling words, skills, and vocabulary words for the week in your child’s green folder. Please check the behavior color for each day with the teacher’s signature, discuss with your child, and please sign. Please collect or return any important notes from school. Please review and sign any graded papers, report cards, progress reports, and study guides. Please write me a note and place in their green folder for transportation changes.

Homework

Things that can be done for homework that would increase learning are: writing and calling out spelling words nightly, writing vocabulary words in a sentence, reading and re-reading decodables, reading grade level books at home and practicing the weekly skills with the text (on the week at a glance), completing ALL math homework (a parent helper comes with it), and reviewing study guides sent home for test.
