Ms. Abby Thomas and Mrs. Sheree's 4th grade classes have begun their final unit focusing on Sound Waves and Communication. To introduce the unit, students participated in hands-on investigations to better understand how waves are created and how energy moves.
Using ropes and slinkies, students explored two types of wave motion:
Transverse waves - created by moving the rope up and down
Longitudinal waves - created by pushing and pulling the slinky side to side
Through these activities, students observed how motiuon energy travels through a medium. Most importantly, they discovered that they were the source of the energy creating the waves. By applying force with their hands, they were able to generate visible wave patterns and observe energy transfer in real time.
This engaging lesson allowed students to connect physical movement to scientific concepts, laying a strong foundation for understanding sound waves and communication.
We are proud of our 4th graders for their curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm as they dive into this exciting unit!

Students in Mrs. Pam Williamson's 6th grade class recently extended their novel study of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen through an engaging, hands-on STEM activity. After reading about Brian's survival journey in the Canadian wilderness, students applied the survival strategies they had learned to design and build model wilderness shelters.
Working collaboratively in teams, students demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking, and engineering skills as they constructed shelters designed to provide protection from the elements. This activity encouraged students to connect literature to real-world applications while strengthening teamwork and creativity.
Experiences like this help our students deepen comprehension while developing essential 21st-century skills.
