Renaissance Star 360® includes interim assessments for early literacy, math, and reading (also available in Spanish), helping you determine the best instruction to meet the needs of all students.
This tool, refined over the years, directs the placement of new students into our competency-based system, specifically in math and literacy, using Renaissance Star assessment results as the initial basis. However, within the first two-week period, teacher assessments and judgments will also influence the final determination of a student's level placement.
Westminster Public Schools uses Item Frames as an effective assessment tool to support our personalized, competency-based system and to teach students how to think like the test expects them to. Item Frames are structured templates that align with specific learning targets in our proficiency scales, providing clear prompts and tasks designed to mirror the cognitive demands of standardized assessments. Through this process, students also build their schema—organizing and connecting prior knowledge with new concepts—enhancing their ability to apply learning in varied contexts. By engaging with Item Frames, students develop a deeper understanding of how to approach and analyze test questions, improving their ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills effectively. This approach ensures consistency in evaluating student progress while equipping students with strategies to succeed in both classroom and high-stakes assessments.
This is an executive summary of the cumulative learning process which is a means for teachers to continually review critical concepts throughout the year.
Item Frames are used as a component of the Cumulative Learning process to support students in preparing for state assessments. Essential, the frames help students think the way the assessment expects them to think.
