GETTING STARTED WITH LEAGUES
Running Leagues are a cornerstone to having a successful WATL Affiliated Venue. Through Leagues, throwers at your venue will be able to compete on our Global Leaderboard and gain access to different levels of competition.
The World Axe Throwing League (WATL) stands out not only for its commitment to promoting the sport of axe throwing but also for the robust support it offers to its Affiliates through a variety of tools.
WATL goes beyond the traditional league structure by providing:
Essential resources such as time estimators, ensuring that league and tournament schedules can be managed effectively.
Peer support is fostered through a collaborative community where Affiliates can share experiences and tips, creating a sense of camaraderie.
Retention guides offer valuable insights to help your leaguers stay engaged and motivated.
Additionally, WATL facilitates personalized growth through one-on-one calls, allowing Affiliates to receive individualized guidance and feedback.
By offering these comprehensive tools, WATL not only enhances the axe throwing experience but also builds a supportive network that empowers participants and affiliates on their journey within the league.
Sanctioned Leagues
Every year WATL hosts 4 league seasons, each containing 7 weeks of gameplay with a playoff tournament for the 8th week. Each league week allows every participant 4 games. Refer to the "How To Run A League" for more information on how leagues are hosted at WATL affiliated venues.
How much space and time is needed to host?
If you are unsure about the space and time needed to host a league, we recommend a minimum of 1 lane and 2 hours for a minimum sized league. If you are unsure of the space or time needed for larger leagues, our League Manager can be contacted at leagues@worldaxethrowingleague.com for more information.
Step 1: Determine league day/times and price
Each venue incurs different costs for leagues, so make sure to charge according to what makes sense for your own costs
Step 2: Advertise Your League
Word of mouth is your best advertisement when starting up (or growing) a league! Every person who walks through your doors should be informed about the league.
Get involved in other local communities to spread the word about your first league. Once established, encourage your members to bring friends and family and to spread the word!
