Judo was founded by Jigoro Kano in Japan around 1882, where he combined and adapted various techniques from traditional Japanese martial arts, primarily jujutsu, to create a new system focused on using an opponent's strength against them, emphasizing self-defense and physical education rather than solely combat; he named it "Judo," meaning "the gentle way."
Judo is a Japanese martial art founded by Jigoro Kano that focuses on using throwing techniques, grappling and ground work.

Ippon
A full point that wins the match immediately. You can score an ippon by throwing your opponent onto their back with speed, force, and control. You can also score an ippon by pinning your opponent down for 20 seconds, or by forcing them to submit with a choke or joint lock.
Waza-ari
A half-point that can be awarded for a partially successful technique. You can score two waza-ari to win the match.
Judo techniques
Judo techniques emphasize using your opponent's strength and momentum against them. This is called seiryoku zenyo, which translates to "maximum efficiency with minimum effort".
