Classroom Rules

Students are required to wear the appropriate uniforms when working in the kitchen. The uniform will consist of :

  • Clean white apron
  • Clean chef jacket
  • Leather work shoes with rubber soles
  • Chef pants when required
  • Two aprons, one pair of chef pants, and two chef jackets will be provided. These will be returned at the end of the year or you will be charged.
  • Note the emphasis is on CLEAN! You are responsible for the care and maintenance of the uniforms. A uniform grade IS A PART OF YOUR LAB GRADE
  • Personal hygiene and is extremely important. Harmful bacteria can be spread rapidly from poor hygiene. Hand washing procedures need to be followed. Hair must be restrained under cap or using a tie. Acrylic Nails or nail polish must be
  • No dresses or shorts are allowed in the kitchen. Footwear needs to be protective and safe. It should protect you in case hot food or liquid falls on you feet. Open toe, high heels, sandals, dress leather moccasins, etc are not allowed.
  • No rings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, and dangling earrings are allowed in the kitchen.
  • Hair that is down to your collar in length needs to be tied back.
  • Students who are not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to work in the kitchen and will receive a zero for the lab.
  • Students should clean as the go. You should try to keep your work confined to one area in the kitchen. A kitchen lab is not over until the instructor indicates that the entire kitchen is clean. Students should not return to their classroom seats until such time.
  • Be prepared (textbook, notebook, homework –completed etc.). Your materials must be brought to class every day without exception.
  • Make-up Quiz or Test – It is your responsibility to contact me two days of a missed quiz or test to reschedule. A prolong absent will require a written excuse. You are responsible to turn in any missed assignments.
  • Safety and sanitation standards and procedures must be adhered to. A personal safety contract needs to be signed by both student and parent.
  • Students should report to the classroom prior to changing before and after class.
  • Students will rotate between functions and responsibilities in the kitchen. These will include sous chef, sanitation, and laundry. All students are responsible for the maintenance of equipment and the facility.
  • In addition to these rules, students are expected to follow all district and high school rules as described in the student handbook.
