2021-22 COVID-19 Post-Secondary Notice:
Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts, New England and across the country are reassessing their college application and admissions process. Currently, they are reporting that they will be test optional for the next school year and perhaps well into the future. It was also noted in a NEACAC (New England Association for College Admissions) conference, that students who report SAT scores through their application process will not be given preferential consideration because they are reporting scores. Emphasis is on equity of access for all.
In place of the test scores, greater emphasis will be placed on the transcript where a student's course selection and rigor of studies will present a more realistic view of the student's ability to accept the challenge of college level studies. Grades will be less of a factor because of the abrupt disruption to this last school year and the significant disparity in how districts graded while in remote learning.
In addition to course selection and rigor, the student's essay will be given stronger consideration in hopes that the essay will provide the readers on the admissions teams with greater information about the student, their struggles, their aspirations and their dreams.
Lastly, the school counselors letter of recommendation will carry greater significance in the decision process, until such time that all students impacted by this disruption to learning have been able to resume standards of learning as sanctioned and recommended by the Dept. of Education.

The mission of Worcester North High School Guidance Department, in affiliation with Worcester Public Schools, is to provide a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program to address students' academic and career goals; in addition to supporting their personal and social/emotional needs. This is accomplished through a partnership with parents and their guardians, staff members, and community members to enable all students to become successful, productive citizens and lifelong learners in a diverse and ever changing world.

North High School Counseling Department will empower all students to reach their maximum potential by using a comprehensive program as well as best practices to address systematic change involving academic, personal/social, and career goals. We will promote an environment to encourage personal inquiry and growth, social responsibility, and academic excellence. School counselors believe that every student can succeed through the collaborative efforts of school, home, and community leading to responsible and productive citizenship in the 21st century.
