March 26, 2021 STEM Presentation:
Dr. Canty Belk is a native of Lancaster, South Carolina. She graduated from Hampton University and the Medical University of South Carolina. From 1996 - 1998, Dr. Canty Belk was the dental director for Family Health Centers, Inc. Currently, she is the Dental Director for Cooperative Health - a community health center based in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Belk loves community health and feels it is her calling. She is the proud mother of two sons, JB and Patrick.
March 5, 2021 STEM Presentation:
Angela B. Abraham, OD, Doctor of Optometry
Dr. Abraham received her B.A. from Smith College and her Doctor of Optometry degree, (O.D.) from University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry.
She was a private practitioner in South Carolina where she specialized in comprehensive eye care and ocular disease with an emphasis on glaucoma treatment and management.
2011 - 2018
Assistant clinical professor at New England College of Optometry (NECO) and Director of Eye and Vision Services at The Dimock Center in Roxbury, MA., a community health center.
Residency Director in Community Health Optometry at The Dimock Center in conjunction with NECO; one of the first community health optometry residency programs in the nation
Policy fellow for the Nick Littlefield Fellowship in Health Policy affiliated with the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation, (NEHI) and Harvard University
Dr. Angela Abraham is the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Liaison for the New England College of Optometry (NECO).
February 26, 2021 STEM Presentation:
2Gether We Eat is a Hydroponic Agro-technology Farming initiative in Worcester, MA. The goal is to help address the food insecurity issue facing many in the Worcester community. The organization will educate and offer hands-on training in how to use hydroponic technology practices to provide local and freshly grown foods to the community. Initially, 2Gether We Eat is working with existing service organizations.

February 12, 2021 STEM Presentation:
Dr. Yancey lived in Greenwich, Connecticut until he was twelve years old. His family relocated to Washington, DC when his father was called to be the Pastor at Gethsemane Baptist Church. This was the first time Dr. Yancey attended a racially segregated public school. The public schools in Washington, DC ended segregation the following year. After graduating high school, Dr. Yancey attended three historically black universities (HBCUs): Howard University, Washington, DC; Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology while playing varsity football; and Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He opened the Leicester Animal Clinic in 1971, and became the first black veterinarian animal hospital owner in the Worcester area. He practiced medicine for over 40 years.
