On Monday, May 13th, 2024, Toni Waldron, Education Director of the Royall House and Slave Quarters presented an excellent workshop, Belinda’s Footsteps: Sugar, Slavery & Survival, to Black Excellence Academy students and parents. Belinda, originally captured in Ghana, was one of twenty-six enslaved individuals on Isaac Royall’s 500 acre Plantation in Medford, MA in the 1800’s. She later would petition the General Court of Massachusetts for reparations.

An extra treat, the reading of Born on the Water  by Nikole Hannah-Jones & Renee Watson.
