Science

Units:

A variety of assessment opportunities are used throughout the year to understand the student's knowledge of science. Performance Assessments are used continuously so student's can demonstrate their ability to use the tools of science. Sixth Grade Science is supported by the district's philosophy that students learn through a combination of hands-on activities, technology, and student resources. We believe that children learn best by doing through concrete experiences and guided activities that are in-depth and create a deeper understanding of concepts. The scientific method is also an integral part of the thinking process of problem solving. In addition, students will participate in a "Shark Tank" presentation in which they will try embark in a Defined Stem Task to prove ways they can provide a great change to help the world as we know it. We will also experience some great ways to experiment whether it be creating rockets, navigating spheros, or even simply diving into growing plants using hydroponic farming. 6th grade is definitely a great year to explore the 4C's of Learning: Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.
