I hope that you are enjoying a restful summer.  Our teachers are diligently preparing for the arrival of their students and can’t wait to welcome them back to campus.  Our school theme for the 2026-27 school year is “Anchored for Life".  Hebrews 6:19 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure...”  We look forward to learning what it means to anchor our life in Christ!

The new school year is fast approaching! I want to take the time to share some important dates and information with you.

Attached to this email, you will find the elementary supply list for 2026-2027.  For some grade levels, items will need to be purchased from the student store.  Bibles (required for grades 2 and grades 3-5, if not previously purchased), student planners (required for grades 3-5), and yearbooks can only be purchased through our online WCS Student Store.  Orders placed by August 5th will be ready for you to pick up at Welcome Day.  Orders placed after August 5th will be available the first day of school in the school office.

Thursday, August 13, is Welcome Day.  Students can drop by to meet their teachers and preview their classroom anytime between 9-11 am.  We will also have information available about our lunch program, extended care, and early release programs.  Items purchased from the WCS Student Store can be picked up at that time as well.

That evening, Thursday, August 13, I encourage you to attend Back to School Night.  There will be a general session where I’ll introduce myself and share some important information you’ll need for a successful year.  There are some school policy changes that are important for all school families to become familiar with.  Immediately following the general session, you will move into a classroom session where you will visit your child’s classroom, and the teacher will present the expectations and plans for the year.  There are two session times for the evening: 

• Session 1 - general session starts at 5:30 pm, with the classroom session beginning at 6:00 pm

• Session 2 - general session starting at 6:30 pm, and classroom session starting at 7:00 pm.  

For those of you who have more than one student at the elementary level, you should plan to use both classroom session times to visit each classroom.  The general session will be held in the Theater located near the MS/HS campus.  This evening is designed for parents only.  Childcare will not be provided.

Note for 5th Grade Families:  5th grade teachers will be meeting with parents in the multipurpose room on the elementary campus, rather than in the individual classrooms, for both the 6:00 and 7:00 sessions.

Every family must verify and update, as needed, their contact information, emergency contact/pick up persons, and medical information. You should do that through your FACTS family portal by logging in here: FACTS Family Portal Login. If your child will be required to take medication, prescription or over-the-counter, while at school, please review the Medication Policy in the Google folder linked below and return the completed form also located in the Google folder.

For interested 5th grade families, there will be a meeting on Back to School Night regarding our annual East Coast trip on Back to School Night.  The meeting will take place at 7:45 pm in the multipurpose room. 

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, August 17.  Please note that this will be a minimum day (8:15-11:50 am).  The remainder of the week will be the regular schedule.  Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will be 8:15 am - 2:45 pm, and Wednesday will be 8:15 am-2:00 pm.

If you have students on the middle or high school campus and would like your elementary student escorted over to his/her sibling (or staff parent) for pick up OR you have your student walking/biking home, please click on the following link so that we can begin organizing this as the first day of school is rapidly approaching.  Please note that Monday, August 17 is a minimum day and students are released at 11:50 am.  Please use this sign-up form to let us know if your child(ren) will need escorting to the MS/HS campus.

Boosters is a parent-run club that provides assistance to all of the WC schools, from preschool to high school.  By raising funds for the school through memberships, WC clothing sales, and Booster-sponsored events, Boosters has assisted or covered all expenses for different items and/or needs for the school, such as items for the music department, athletic department, the school facilities, the elementary learning center, and many other extracurricular items.  Please consider joining Boosters to help improve Woodland Christian School for our children.  Boosters representatives will be available at upcoming orientations and welcome-back-to-school events.  You can also contact the Boosters president, Anita Morse, by emailing boosters@wcs-k12.org.

From time to time throughout the year, the Boosters hosts an online merchandise store, giving you the opportunity to order great gear for your students and family to show your Cardinal pride!  The next store will open August 17th, and the link will be included in a Weekly Update from Mr. Hagadon when the store opens.

You will be receiving an email with your child’s class assignment on Monday, August 10, in the late afternoon.  Your child’s placement is being carefully and prayerfully considered. 

Below, you will find a link to a folder that contains several important documents that will ensure your student has a successful 2026-2027 school year.  These documents include the 2026-2027 School Calendar, 2026-2027 Elementary Dress Code, 2026-2027 Elementary Supply List, and information about extended care.  These documents will also be available on the WCES Website.  If you have any problems opening or printing any of them, please contact the front office.

We are excited for a fun and memorable summer ahead! Please review the attached calendar and mark the activities your child will participate in. Activity checklists, permission slips, and payment for activities are due by Wednesday, June 3rd. Because all activities must be prepaid, we are unable to issue refunds. The total cost for June activities is $98.50.

Summer Daycare payments are due each Monday. If your child will not attend on Monday, payment should be submitted the previous week. Daycare rates are as follows:

• $28 per day, per child for care over 6 hours

• $26 per day, per child for care under 6 hours

• A $2 per day discount is available for families with two children enrolled

Parents will indicate which days their child will attend and pay accordingly. Please note that refunds will not be given for absences. If you need to add an extra day, drop-in care is available for $33 per day. However, drop-ins are not permitted on field trip days (Fridays). In order to participate in field trips, children must attend at least 3 days per week.

Please also note that Summer Daycare is not available for children who choose not to attend scheduled field trips.

On Tuesdays, students will walk to the Senior Center Pool. We will leave campus at 1:00 PM and return at approximately 3:30 PM.

We are also looking for drivers for bowling trips here in Woodland. We leave the school at 12:30 PM and return for pickup at 3:00 PM.

Please let us know in advance if your child will miss a field trip, and be sure your child arrives on time on field trip days.

For water activity days, please send:

• A swimsuit (no two-piece swimsuits unless the top fully meets the bottom)

• A towel

• Water shoes or sandals

The asphalt can become very hot, and there are bees around the activity areas.

Because students will spend a great deal of time outdoors, please apply sunscreen to your child before arrival each day. If you would like us to help reapply sunscreen, please send a labeled bottle with your child.

Dropping off students at the gate along Cardinal Way is always the most efficient for those of you who are on your way to work in the morning.  If you use the parking lot in front of the office to drop off your child and/or walk them to class, please be mindful of two things:

1. Park in a designated parking space.  Please do not stop in the lane to let your child out.  This slows down traffic and is potentially unsafe for your child. 

2. If you park, please do not use the handicap spaces unless you have a handicap placard or sticker.

We provide an escort of elementary students over to the other campus after school.  This is only for students with parents/siblings at the MS/HS campus, who need to be escorted across Matmor, or who use the pedestrian bridge across 113.

Students must be picked up by 3:00 pm (M, T, Th, F), 2:20 pm (Wed), or 12:15 pm (minimum days).  Students not picked up by this time will be walked back to the elementary campus and checked into extended care.

Our Student Support Teacher, Mrs. Schroeder, has put together a document of resources if you want to work on additional reading with your student at home.  The document has links to different websites that can be used on a tablet or a computer.
