Last week, we introduced our first Expected Schoolwide Learning Result, A Person of Faith, and the importance of developing self-awareness that leads to faithfulness. But what does this look like as our children grow?

The biblical story provides the foundation for understanding ourselves. We are created in God's image, possessing inherent dignity and purpose. Yet sin has broken our relationship with God and distorted how we understand ourselves and relate to others. The good news of the Gospel is that through Jesus Christ, God offers forgiveness, reconciliation, and new life.

This means that our students' identity and worth are not determined by their achievements, failures, or the approval of others. We want them to understand themselves in light of God's truth and increasingly respond to His grace with faithfulness.

This growth looks different at different ages. A younger student might begin by recognizing that they have made a wrong choice and learning that God's love is not earned through perfect behavior. As students mature, they can increasingly examine the desires behind their choices, acknowledge responsibility, receive correction without defensiveness, and respond with repentance, gratitude, and a desire to grow.

Parents and teachers play an essential role in this formation. We help children grow by telling them what is right and by modeling faithfulness, extending grace, inviting honest reflection, and guiding them toward the truth of the Gospel in everyday situations.

Whether a child is celebrating success, navigating disappointment, struggling with a friendship, or facing correction, these moments become opportunities for formation.

Our hope is that students learn to behave like Christians and that they increasingly understand the Gospel and, through faith in Christ, become people whose lives reflect His grace and truth.

The last day to turn in orders for the cookie dough fundraiser is Monday, September 21.

Just a reminder to update your child’s medical information, emergency contacts, and authorized pickup information in FACTS.  Even if you are not new to the school, please take a moment to ensure that the information is up-to-date. 

Please take a few minutes to review and update your information by following these steps:

1. Log in to the FACTS Family Portal.

2. From the sidebar, select Web Forms.

3. Select Family Demographic Form.

4. Please review and update the following three sections:

• Student Medical: Please provide your child’s physician and insurance information. If your child has any medical conditions, allergies, or medication needs, please make sure those are also current and complete.

• Emergency Contacts: Please list the individuals we should contact in the event of an emergency. This should include parents/guardians as well as any additional emergency contacts you would like us to have on file.

• Transportation: Please list the individuals who have your permission to pick up your child from school. Please include parents/guardians as well as any other authorized individuals.

Once you have reviewed and updated the information, be sure to click “Save” so that your changes are recorded.

If you missed picture day or would like to have your child retake their school picture, we have a make-up day scheduled for Tuesday, September 29.  

Students' pictures will be included in the yearbook, so they must have their picture taken, even if you aren’t interested in ordering a package. Free dress is allowed on Picture Day, within our free dress code guidelines.

Here are some important details:

• You will not receive a paper flier or order form.

• All orders will be placed on Lifetouch's website, as instructed in the attached Elementary School-specific flier.

• Click or tap here to place your order for your elementary schooler: https://my.lifetouch.com and enter the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-specific Picture Day ID code EVTPJC6PD

• You can order anytime now through 2 days after picture day.

• Payment is required at the time of order; no orders or payments will be accepted at school.

• Picture packages will be delivered to school and sent home with your student within a couple of weeks after picture day.

If you have any polo dresses that you would like to get a WCS logo for, we have several options:

1. Qualitees can embroider the logo on for $12 each. You can reach them in person at 622 Cottonwood Street, Woodland or go to their online store at www.weprintlogos.com.

2. Valor n Vine can also apply an iron on patch for $10 or a transfer for $5.  You can find examples in the school office.  If you are interested in one of these two options, you can contact Sonnie Martin at 530-867-1627 to make arrangements. 

Boosters is a parent-run club that provides assistance to all of the WC schools, from preschool to high school.  By raising funds for the school through memberships, WC clothing sales, and Booster-sponsored events, Boosters has assisted or covered all expenses for different items and/or needs for the school, such as items for the music department, athletic department, the school facilities, the elementary learning center, and many other extracurricular items.  Please consider joining Boosters to help improve Woodland Christian School for our children.  Boosters representatives will be available at upcoming orientations and welcome-back-to-school events.  You can also contact the Boosters president, Anita Morse, by emailing boosters@wcs-k12.org.

Dropping off students at the gate along Cardinal Way is always the most efficient for those of you who are on your way to work in the morning.  If you use the parking lot in front of the office to drop off your child and/or walk them to class, please be mindful of two things:

1. Park in a designated parking space.  Please do not stop in the lane to let your child out.  This slows down traffic and is potentially unsafe for your child. 

2. If you park, please do not use the handicap spaces unless you have a handicap placard or sticker.  

Online lunch ordering is open now through September 4th. The ordering window for the first week of school will close next Tuesday, August 11th at 3:00 p.m. The menu for those dates is below. If you are new to WCS or new to ordering lunches, please see important information about how to log in and order below and in the attached document.

In the attached document, you’ll find detailed instructions for placing lunch orders for your students.  Below are a couple of tips that you’ll find helpful as you’re using the program:

• Each of your children is connected to your account.  You’ll find them listed in a drop-down list at the top of the page. You’ll be directed to the specific menu for each student’s campus and can view and print the menu for that campus by clicking “Menu” on the left side of your screen.

• To place an order, return to the “Purchase Preorder” page and follow the instructions attached.

• After you place an order, you can view and print a personalized menu for each student that shows only what you’ve ordered for them.

Keep in mind that:

• The lunch ordering window closes each Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. for the following week.

• If your child is absent you can come by the school and pick up their lunch.  You must contact the office before 10:00 a.m. if you would like to do this.

• Drinks are not included with meals and must be purchased separately.

• Lunch items are subject to change with little to no notice depending on supplier stock of which we have no control of.

• ES ONLY: If your child forgets their lunch and we can’t reach you or you are unable to bring them lunch, an emergency PB&J sandwich with a vegetable will be provided for $5.00.  Emergency lunches are not the meal that is on the menu for that day.

We provide an escort of elementary students over to the other campus after school.  This is only for students with parents/siblings at the MS/HS campus, who need to be escorted across Matmor, or who use the pedestrian bridge across 113.

Students must be picked up by 3:00 pm (M, T, Th, F), 2:20 pm (Wed), or 12:15 pm (minimum days).  Students not picked up by this time will be walked back to the elementary campus and checked into extended care.

Our Student Support Teacher, Mrs. Schroeder, has put together a document of resources if you want to work on additional reading with your student at home.  The document has links to different websites that can be used on a tablet or a computer.

Additionally, she has provided information for a resource related to dyslexia and speech.
