Your weekly round up of events
As part of our curriculum, children at Wood End Primary learn about the emergency services and the people who help us. This week, our Nursery and Reception children were delighted to welcome the Northolt Fire station staff and fire engine. Ruby and her team gave the children a tour of the fire engine, explaining the different parts and items they carry and the role of the firefighters. The visit ended with great excitement as the children had the opportunity to use the fire hose themselves.
This week Year 1 have been having great fun learning about poetry - we have been focusing on the book 'oi dog'. The children worked in pairs to match rhyming words and make their own funny sentences!
Have been working hard on their Maths skills. This week children have been working on division. Working together and using technology to problem solve.
We currently have CGP Study books you can buy in school for Year 3 which will cover Maths and division, as in the office for more information.
Well done to Leo in Year 3. Leo has completed some excellent work on Snakeoronic in his fact file and got a Headteachers award. Well done Leo
Well done to Aya in year 6 just one of children who received one of our learning certificates this friday.
Teachers can celebrate a child in their class who has shown on of core values of the week. Well done Aya
Ash Class delivered an assembly based on our recent Science and PSHE lessons regarding 'Earth's Thermostat.' They explored how every one of us is responsible for looking after our home. The children explained that by making small changes to our daily lives, we can collectively make a big difference to the planet. Parents also got the opportunity to have a look through their child's books in class after assembly. We will continue to do this after all class assemblies
Children in Nursery are now being introduced to the alphabet and this Wednesday they were concentrating on the letter N. They practiced writing and pronouncing the word and thinking of all things beginning with N.
Please practice at home with your child!
Break the Rules Day - An AMAZING £740 was raised
Each class will now be given money to spend on wet play games and equipment. Thank you for your support
Screens are part of modern life, but too much can affect sleep and mood. Set family “screen-free times”, such as meals or the hour before bed.
Encourage creative offline play — reading, drawing, building, or outdoor fun. Children follow our example, so modelling balance matters most.
BBC Own It
One of the most powerful things that can support your child's learning at home is simply how you talk to them. Your child has an incredibly busy day at school, and encouraging them to tell you all about it is a wonderful activity. Open questions are questions that don't have a right or wrong answer and can't be answered with just "yes" or "no". So instead of asking “Did you have a good day at school?”, try some of these;
"What was the best part of your day?", "What was something you enjoyed playing with today?", “What was something that made you think today?”.
Open questions like this encourage children to reflect, explain their ideas, and develop their language skills. There’s no right or wrong answer — it’s about giving children time to talk and feel listened to.
You might be surprised by the thoughtful responses you receive, or you may find your child needs time to think before answering. Both are valuable parts of communication development.
By using open-ended questions in everyday moments- during play, mealtimes or on the walk to school- you are helping to build strong communication skills that support your child's learning now and in the future.
Thank you for working in partnership with us to support your child's development.

This week, we are encouraging parents to have a look at the Speech and Language workshops available this term, which offer practical support and guidance
The Wood End Inclusion Toolkit is a dedicated digital hub designed to support families with resources on Special Educational Needs (SEND) and general wellbeing. The Padlet provides easy access to strategies covering the four broad areas of need, key school policies, and links to local support services. We encourage parents to explore the toolkit for helpful guidance and to stay informed about upcoming inclusion workshops.
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen Thorp for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Wednesdays from 9-10am. You can call/text 07429654584 or email helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
Study books will be available from school and can be purchased via the Arbor shop. Books are at least £5 each online but you can purchase a set of 3 for £9 from school. They are recommended by the teachers to help children with everyday school work and assessments. Only available until stocks run out
