Your weekly round up of events
Thank you to all the parents and children that supported the Christmas raffle by buying tickets or donating prizes, we raised an amazing £283. The raffle was drawn on Wednesday morning and here are some of the very happy lucky winners.
Children had a wonderful time watching the pantomime Beauty and The Beast which came to Wood End Primary. Some talented teachers and children got take part in the story with the professional actors. Thank you to all the parents that contributed to make this happen the children loved it.
Children travelled all the way to Epping Forest to the HIVE, where they were given maps to certain locations. using latitude and longitudes co-ordinates they figured out where the clues were. They had an exciting time exploring in the forest.
An interactive workshop that Year 5 truly enjoyed. Children learned and played games they would have played in ancient Greek times.
This week in DT year 1 made yummy jam tarts. They mixed and measured all the ingredients and then enjoyed the final product!
Followed the recipe and enjoyed eating and making lamb kofta and yummy mint dip.
Feeling anxious is normal, especially after change or challenge. Help children name their feelings and use calming activities such as deep breathing, drawing, or walking outside.
Avoid dismissing worries — instead say, “I can see that feels hard.” Small, regular conversations build emotional strength.
Young Minds – Parents’ Guide
The greatest gift of all: playing with you!
All children need to play. It is their way of learning skills and helps them to release their emotions. Regularly playing with your child will help you to feel closer. It will also encourage them to cooperate more, and you will feel more energised!
How can parents help?
I know most of you might feel exhausted at the end of the day. However, all you need is 10 mins of play, which will help both you and your child to let out some of the stress accumulated from your day. Can you try any of these at some point in your day?
* If your child is feeling over-excited and needs to let off some energy, how about taking him to a quiet, safe space and letting him spin around while you spot him?
* If she is having difficulty falling asleep at night, you could say goodnight to each part of her body.
* If he needs some help calming down, perhaps you could blow bubbles together and see how long you can keep them in the air before popping.
* Play football together by blowing a cotton ball around through straws.
* If she is finding a situation difficult, use stuffed animals to act it out.
* Finally, I always suggest following your child’s lead and joining them in their favourite game: let them teach
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen Thorp for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Wednesdays from 9-10am. You can call/text 07429654584 or email helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
It was lovely to see so many families enjoying the Christmas songs the children have been practicing this term. The Christmas jumpers worn by the children made it all the more fun. I'm sure the children will be singing the songs well into Christmas holidays. Videos will be emailed out to parents.
