A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for our OPAL Open Day! We were absolutely delighted by the fantastic turnout, and the beautiful weather made the afternoon even more special. It was wonderful to welcome you into our outdoor space, and we hope it gave you a much better insight into all the fun, creativity, and learning that happens during our unstructured times. Your incredible support truly makes our school community shine!
Thank you to all the families that came along to the summer fair and to all those parents and staff that donated cakes, sweets and toys to make it super fun for all. Below are some pictures of the day.
Our Summer Raffle will be drawn on Friday 26th June during assembly.
The children had raised £185 for the Ealing Wildlife Beaver Project and Ealing wildlife expert Seniz came along to class last week to speak to Sycamore class all about the Greenford Beavers and to collect the cheque.
There are lots of things families can do to get involved in the project, for more information
please see their website: https://theealingbeaverproject.com/get-involved/
On Thursday 25th June we will celebrate all things French. Children can wear the French colours (red, white and blue) if they wish and we will have a French cafe available for parents to enjoy at the end of the day.
Our French Cafe will be open at 1.45pm and 3pm.
Get ready to cheer on Mr Stainbank and Mr Best as they push their physical limits for a fantastic cause! On Saturday, 5th September 2026, our two brave staff members will be competing in the grueling Gymrace London to raise vital resources for our school. This intense fitness challenge will see them tackling everything from a 50m sled push, heavy dumbbell lunges, and rowing, to a brutal series of 1km runs. They are putting in the training, and we need your help to back them up! Parents and carers can support their incredible efforts by scanning the QR code on the flyer or clicking on the link below to purchase items directly from our Wood End Primary Amazon Wishlist, ensuring all donations go straight toward enhancing our school environment. For more details on their massive challenge, visit www.gymrace.com. With the arrival of warmer weather, children are spending more time outdoors, exploring, playing, and learning in different ways. Outdoor experiences provide wonderful opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, curiosity, creativity, and understanding of the world around them.
Whether they are hunting for minibeasts, building with natural materials, creating obstacle courses, or simply enjoying active play with friends, children learn so much through outdoor experiences. Being outside also supports wellbeing, helping children to feel relaxed, energised, and ready to learn.
The warmer months are a great time to encourage children to explore their environment and notice the changes that come with the season. Talking about the weather, plants, insects, and wildlife helps develop both communication skills and curiosity.
At home, you might try:
Taking a walk and spotting signs of summer
Looking for flowers, insects, or birds together
Drawing or collecting natural objects
Playing active games outdoors
Talking about what you can see, hear, and feel
Please remember to send your child to school with a named water bottle and ensure sun cream is applied before school on sunny days.

This week, children across Wood End took part in a special assembly exploring the Equality Act 2010 and the nine protected characteristics — the qualities and experiences that the law recognises as deserving of protection from discrimination and unfair treatment.
In simple terms, the law protects people from being treated unfairly because of who they are — including their age, disability, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation, amongst others.
Our school community is made up of people from many different backgrounds, cultures, beliefs and experiences, and we believe that is something to celebrate. Through the assembly, children were encouraged to think about what makes each of us unique, why fairness matters, and what it looks and feels like to treat others with kindness and respect.
Teaching children about equality is not simply a legal requirement — it is at the heart of preparing them for life in modern Britain. When children learn to ask respectful questions, challenge unfair assumptions and appreciate difference, they develop the confidence and empathy to build positive relationships throughout their lives.
You can continue these conversations at home by asking your child what they learned this week. You might be surprised by the thoughtfulness of their answers.
For further information on the Equality Act and protected characteristics, visit www.gov.uk/discrimination-your-rights.

Do you ever wish you could be a fly on the wall at your child’s school? As a parent, sending your child to school can bring up all sorts of feelings. More than anything, you may be feeling curious: what did they do? How did they behave? How do they act when you are not there? And many of you may also have realised that asking your child ‘How was your day?” doesn’t always encourage them to share their experiences.
How can parents help?
Give them some time before asking them lots of questions at pick-up: they may be tired and will need to reconnect with you first. Try to chat casually and to ask open-ended questions. If they aren’t ready to answer, just pause and come back to it later: perhaps as you are playing, eating together or during bath time. Here are a few examples of questions you can ask instead:
1. What was the funniest/silliest thing that happened today?
2. What games did you play in the playground?
3. Did anyone do anything super nice for you? What was the kindest thing you did for someone else?
4. How would you rate your day on a scale of 1-10?
5. What is something you would have liked to do differently today?
6. What made you smile today?
7. Which rule was the hardest to follow?
8. Did you make a new friend today? What’s their name? What do you like about them?
9. Is there anything you would like help with?
10. If you were a teacher/head of the school, what would your class/school be like
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen Thorp for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Wednesday from 9-10am. You can call/text 07429654584 or email helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
Fundraising
Join the Thames Path Challenge - Saturday 12 September! Parents, carers and school staff are warmly invited to take part in the Thames Path Challenge this September to raise vital funds for Schools Counselling Partnership (SCP).
Choose your challenge and take part your way — walk, jog or run: 25km 50km 100km
Every step will help raise essential funds so SCP can continue providing counselling support for our children. Registration is free - Schools Counselling Partnership will pay your registration fee.
Why we need your support
Children and young people are facing growing emotional pressures. Across England: Around 1 in 5 pupils are now identified as having SEND needs. Over 638,000 children currently have an EHCP, with numbers continuing to rise each year. Increasing numbers of children are accessing mental health services for anxiety, low mood, trauma and emotional distress.
Many children receive their first professional emotional support through counselling provided in school.
SCP supports children, young people, parents/carers and teaching staff in school, helping them manage anxiety, bereavement, family change, friendship difficulties and other challenges that can affect wellbeing and learning.
All you need to do is commit to fundraising — every pound raised helps us support more children in school. To register simply click HERE.

We encourage schools and professionals to share this opportunity with young people and support them in signing up.
