14th November 2025
Your weekly round up of events and what's coming up!
This week, the children took part in an assembly to learn why we wear a poppy on the 11th of November each year. They joined in a two-minute silence to reflect and remember those who are no longer with us, as well as to cherish the good times shared with them.
.
On Monday, Year 4 had the opportunity to consolidate their learning about rivers by attending a workshop by the River Thames. During the day, we learnt about the geography and history of this great river. We also explored and classified a huge variety of historical artefacts that have been found. To investigate the river itself, we went down onto the foreshore at low tide. We discussed the flow of the water and observed that we were on a meander of the river. We then searched the water and foreshore for animals that live in the Thames, including clams, snails and shrimp. Despite the inclement weather, we had a fantastic and memorable experience!
Next friday we invite parents and children to bring in a dish to share with other families. This is a very poplar event so don't miss it. It will be held in our new hall. We are inviting Reception and Nursery parents to come from 2.30pm and all other year groups from 3pm. Come and enjoy a tasty snack and a chat before the weekend. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and connect. Children can wear their traditional clothing that day if they wish. If possible please drop food items to the school before 12 noon. Thank you.
We’re delighted to share that the Oldfield Circus Christmas Tree will be going up on Saturday, 22nd November 2025 near the Oldfield shops on the roundabout.
The Christmas Lights Switch-On Ceremony will between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and help our community welcome the festive season! This year, the event is being supported by the local council and will feature poets, speakers, and stalls selling a variety of festive goods under cosy gazebos. Enjoy some mulled wine, hot chocolate, cakes and mince pies as you take in the festivities.
Michael from the Hairdressers who has very kindly organised the tree has invited local children to bring along their own decoration to put on the tree. So please get crafting and make a christmas tree decoration to hang on the tree. This is a lovely start to the holiday season! 🌟
We encourage all children in school to have a hot meal, however some children may decide to bring a packed lunch into school. If your child does decide on this option please inform the school office at the beginning of the term. When children attend all day school trips they may be asked to bring packed lunch. For the safety of all children please ensure that the following items are not included in the packed lunch.
Packed lunches MUST NOT contain:
Fizzy or sugary drinks.
Confectionery such as chocolate bars and sweets.
Nuts or nut products of any sort. (Some children have severe nut allergies, and even sitting next to a child eating nuts may cause an allergic reaction.)
Choking Hazards: Whole, un-halved, or un-quartered grapes, cherry tomatoes, or other small, round foods. These must be cut appropriately for younger children due to the high risk of choking.
Most social media platforms (including WhatsApp, TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram) are for ages 13 and over. These age limits protect children from inappropriate content and data sharing.
If your child is under 13, encourage age-appropriate platforms like BBC Own It or YouTube Kids. Honest conversations about online life are more effective than blanket bans.
Supporting children, families and schools
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen Thorp for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Wednesdays from 9-10am. You can call/text 07429654584 or email helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk

On Wednesday 19th November a new company will be taking the children's individual school photographs. Due to low uptake in orders over recent years, we are only taking individual pupil photos. However, if any parents wish to have a sibling photo (photo with all children together), the photographers have made themselves available between 8-9 am in the studio hall (next to the playground). Parents must bring their children during this time and stay with their children to have their photograph taken. Cut-off is 9.00am prompt and no further sibling photos will be taken.
Please ensure pupils come to school in their full school uniform even if they normally have PE that day. No PE Uniform that day.
