💘Your weekly round up of events and what's coming up! ♥️
Thank you to all the parents that came along for the parent workshop on Online safety
There were lots of interesting discussions on how we can as parents can monitor our children's devices and how to have open conversations with our children about their online activities. There are plenty of resources available to support all parents and carers at www.parentsafe.lgfl.net
This week at school, we have participated in Safer Internet Day, a global event that encourages students, parents, and educators to come together and promote safe, responsible online behavior. The theme this year is Too Good to Be True: Protecting Yourself and Others from Scams Online. We are focusing on raising awareness about the importance of protecting personal information, understanding digital footprints, and fostering positive online interactions. We encourage all parents to have open conversations with their children about their online activities, teach them the value of privacy, and help them recognize both the benefits and potential risks of the internet. Together, we can empower our students to navigate the digital world with confidence, respect, and responsibility.
If your child or you know of a child that would like a nursery space and has a birth date between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022, now is the time to apply for a Nursery place for September 2025 at Wood End Primary School. Please collect an application form from the school office or download one from the school website under Nursery Admissions.
Farewell and Best Wishes!
As we approach the end of the term, we have two very special farewells to share with you.
First, we send our warmest wishes to Mrs O'Leary, our incredible Early Years Lead and Reception teacher, as she soon begins her maternity leave to welcome her second child. Mrs O'Leary has been a dedicated and inspiring leader, supporting not only the children in her care but also her team and parents throughout the year. Her passion and commitment have made a lasting impact on our Early Years setting, and we will certainly miss her energy, expertise, and warmth in the classroom. We wish her all the best for this exciting new chapter and look forward to meeting the newest addition to her family! We are pleased to welcome Miss El-Fassi to Wood End, where she will be stepping in for Mrs. O'Leary during her maternity leave.
We also bid a fond farewell to Mrs Dowse, who will be retiring at the end of the month after over 15 wonderful years as a valued member of our school community. Mrs Dowse has been a pillar of support in Reception, working tirelessly to nurture and guide our youngest learners. Her kindness, patience, and dedication have touched the lives of so many children and families over the years. Her presence in the classroom and around the school will be greatly missed, but we hope she enjoys a well-deserved and fulfilling retirement.
Both Mrs O'Leary and Mrs Dowse have played such important roles in shaping the experiences of our children, and we thank them wholeheartedly for everything they have done. We wish them all the happiness and success in their next adventures!
Kind regards,
Warner Stainbank

As part of Year 4 History lessons they have been learning about Greek Mythology. Children have been looking at elements of art (design and composition) and recreating Matisse's Cutouts 'The Fall of Icarus'.
Landscape with the Fall of Icarus is an oil painting now in the Old masters Museum (part of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium) in Brussels. It is thought to be by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
Have been getting their hands dirty and making their own gargoyles as they have been learning and looking at Architecture and different features you find on buildings. They have been looking at Southwark Cathedral and how it has gargoyles and their purpose as a rain spout or to protect the Cathedral.
9 children got to try and compete at Curling at Cardinal Wiseman Curling competition last week. Even though it is an unusual sport only seen at the Olympics there were definitely some natural players on the team.
Parents and children got to experiment and create some tasty snacks in a cooking session on Thursday this week. All part of introducing healthy meal options to children.
Every week the classes with the highest attendance for the previous week will receive a certificate that they proudly display in their classroom. This underpins the importance of coming to school everyday to the children and celebrates their class achievement.
