Your weekly round up of events
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we will be holding a school book swap event on March 5th. Children are invited to bring in a book from home that they no longer read and would like to swap for another book.
Books should be in good condition and suitable for your child’s age group. During the event, children will be able to choose a different book to take home — if they bring more than one book, they may swap for the same number of books.
If your child would prefer not to swap a book, they are still very welcome to bring in a favourite book to share with their class as part of our reading celebrations.

It was Year 4 Sycamore class assembly this week, and the subject was Chinese New Year. All the children took part in this fabulous colourful celebration of the Chinese new year. This is the year of the horse and we learned all about each of the chinese calendar animals and how they became part of the chinese calendar.
Happy New Year to all those celebrating next week
Children learn best by copying adults. Always use crossings, hold hands near roads, and model stopping to look both ways. Remind children that distractions such as phones or headphones make crossings risky. Simple routines save lives, Click the Link for more tips: Road Safety: Advice for Parents and Families
Brake's top tips for keeping children safe near roads
* Children under 8 should always hold a grown up's hand when walking near roads
* Children under 8 should always cross roads with a grown up, at a safe crossing place
* Until they are 150cm tall, all children should sit in a correctly sized and fitted child seat when travelling by car
* Children under 10 should not cycle on roads, they should keep to cycle paths away from motorised traffic
* Children should always wear a helmet when cycling to protect their head if they fall off
Early maths is all around us and doesn’t require worksheets or formal activities. In EYFS, we focus on helping children develop a strong understanding of numbers through real-life, meaningful experiences.
At home, you could try:
Counting steps as you walk upstairs or to the car
Sharing out snacks (“We have 4 grapes and 2 people — how many each?”)
Sorting socks by colour, size, or owner
Counting toys as they are tidied away
Setting the table (“How many forks do we need?”)
Comparing amounts (“Who has more blocks?” “Which pile is bigger?”)
Spotting numbers on doors, buses, or price labels
Making simple patterns with spoons, fruit, or shoes (e.g. sock, shoe, sock, shoe)
Timing everyday tasks (“Can you tidy up before I count to 20?”)
Cooking together, talking about full/empty, heavy/light, more/less
You don’t need special resources — just conversations. The key is talking about what you notice: numbers, shapes, size, position, and patterns.
When maths becomes part of daily routines, children develop confidence and curiosity without even realising they are “doing maths.” These small moments, repeated often, make a big difference to early mathematical understanding.

At our school, we are proud to be a community where every child and family is welcomed, respected and valued. We actively promote the British Values of respect, tolerance and mutual understanding, helping children to understand and appreciate the rich diversity of modern Britain.
Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider school life, children are encouraged to celebrate difference, show kindness and develop empathy for others. Activities and events in school are always designed to support these aims, ensuring that all children feel safe, included and able to take part fully in school life.
As a community school, we reflect the society our children are growing up in. We believe it is important that pupils learn to treat others fairly and with respect, even when people may look, think or live differently from themselves. These principles sit at the heart of our work and help prepare children to become confident, respectful and responsible members of society.
