The Elms ‘Legends of Football' Competition

Sophia was one of the lucky winners selected by Elms for the Legends of Football competition.
It was a fantastic achievement as there were close to 2000 entries, with only 20 winners in total. Sophia had an amazing time with Gareth Southgate and got to play with a Professional Football player as well as other lucky winners.

The lucky pupils attended a training session, followed by a Q & A with England Head Coach Gareth at Watford FC Training Ground.

QUAD Kids - Athletics Competition

Well done to our Year 5 and Year 6 teams that took part in the SSP Quadkids Athletics competition at Perivale Athletics Track last Friday. Each child had to compete in 4 different events that were made up of a 75m sprint, vortex throw, standing jump and a 600m run to gain points for their team. Our Year 5 team came 9th and our Year 6 team came 5th. Well done to all that took part.

Minibeasts life cycle

Reception have been learning about minibeasts and their focus has been on the life cycle of caterpillars to butterflies. We have been learning about key features of an information text and writing facts about butterflies. We also have caterpillars in each of our classrooms and have been keeping a close eye on them. They have reached the chrysalis stage and we are patiently waiting for them to hatch into butterflies.

The Space

Dinner: Nurturing Family Connection

Often, dinner can feel like such a chore, even a mission, that you just want to get through. However, studies show that having dinner together as a family is a top predictor for how well children will do in school and in adolescence. The ritual of sharing food with those we love offers children the security of belonging, being nurtured and a space to talk and share.

How can parents help?

Try to have at least a few nights a week when you can all eat together. Keep that space sacred, safe and positive and, most importantly, switch off the TV and all devices - including your own phones! It is helpful to keep dinner fun and playful and to engage everyone in preparing the meal and/or setting the table. Think of rituals you can put in place and try to make the discussions interesting for everyone. And the first secret is to keep the food healthy but simple: look after yourself and save your energy for connecting with your family.
