Your weekly round up of events in school and what's coming up

Reading in Reception

Beech and Willow classes started their 'Reading with a Parent/Carer in class this week. Reading with your child fosters their cognitive development and helps strengthen your bond with your child. Sharing this experience simulates language and reading skills.  Try and take a little time in the day to explore the wonderful world of books with your child.   Ms Burton's recommended book this week is:  Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins, a wonderful book about a sly fox and a clever hen.

School Council Fundraising Event Children embraced the wear our own clothes to school day on Friday. With £335 raised we will be able to buy some new playground equipment for the children to enjoy.

Year 1 enjoyed a fun P.E Lesson on Friday

BocciA Trophy

A very small group of eager Year 4 children went to Ellen Wilkinson School for a sports competition last week to play a game of Boccia. They not only took part but won the cup!  If you have never heard of Boccia, it is an Italian game a bit like bouls or bowls. It just shows how quickly you can master a new skill or sport, so always encourage children to give new things a try.

Curriculum Newsletter

You would have received an email with the Curriculum newsletter for your year group. Please take a look at the Newsletter to see what your child will be learning in school this term. They are also available on our website:  https://www.woodendprimaryschool.com/curriculum/

BRASS LESSONS

BRASS tuition re-started on Thursday 11th January.  This tuition is open to all pupils in Years 3 to 6. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to start instrumental music lessons. In the past many children have expressed an interest in learning to play an instrument. The current cost of tuition, which compares favourably with the cost of private lessons, is £50.00 (per term) payable online via Parent Mail.

Those pupils who currently take Brass lessons and wish to continue, please log into Parent Mail and pay for this term. Brass instruments will be provided to pupils on hire and may consist of a Trumpet/Tenor/Horn/Euphonium. The music teacher will assess all pupils initially and see which instrument they are most suited to. Lessons usually take place in the afternoon on Thursdays. Pupils MUST remember to bring their own instrument to school on tuition days.  If you would like your child to take up this opportunity, please complete payment online via pmx.parentmail.co.uk. Payment must be made before lessons can commence. Please note that Brass Club will begin on Thursday 11th January until Thursday 21st March 2024

JEWELLERY IN SCHOOL

We do not encourage children to wear jewellery in school as it can easily get lost and cause safety concerns.  If children wish to wear earrings please ensure they are studs and not hoops as small fingers can get caught in them.  If a Key stage 1 children is found to be wearing them you may be asked to attend school to remove them.  Thank you for you co-operation.

Felix

We are fortunate to be able to host the Felix project in school, allowing parents to have access to free healthy food which would have gone to waste. We do feel that not enough parents are able to access the food, if you are able to volunteer to help distribute the food on a Thursday afternoon please let us know at the school office or email admin@woodendprimaryschool.com.  If taking/eating food items please ensure you do not leave litter behind as we are proud to have a fantastic looking well kept school and it can only stay that way if everyone respects the environment.  Thank you.

Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.  If you would like to meet Helen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, she is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays 9-10am. You can call/text Helen on 07429 654584 or email her at helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
