Squeals of delight have been heard all week as the new school playground equipment has been opened and the children have all been enjoying the new slide, sandpits and towers.
It was a lovely warm day, the weather was perfect. We walked alongside the Thames seeing some fantastic views of Tower Bridge and many of the iconic buildings of London.
Upon arrival we paid a visit to the ravens and heard the legends about the Tower falling if they were to ever leave. We explored Traitors Gate and the Bloody Tower before visiting the Yeoman Warders. Then we went to crown jewels and explored the vaults. We then visited the White Tower viewing displays full of armour and swords. When we got to the top of the Tower we had a chance to become involved with the interactive exhibits, the highlights being a chance to use cavalry swords and take aim with ancient rifles.
We enjoyed lunch out on the surrounding grounds and had a chance to see the interactive historical theatre show that was going on there. We finished off by exploring all the battlements gaining fantastic views over central London. An excellent time had by all! Mr Greeves Assistant Head Teacher
Saturday 16th May 2026 from 9am to 11am the Nursery will be open to anybody who is looking for a nursery place for September. If you know anybody who is looking for a Nursery place, part time or full time place ask them to get in touch.
Some older children are groomed to carry drugs or money for gangs. Signs include new belongings, unexplained absences, or changes in mood.
Primary-age children can be targeted through online games or social media, so stay alert to new contacts. Open, non-judgemental conversations are key.
Learning to take turns and share is an important part of children’s social development. These skills help children build friendships, work cooperatively, and begin to understand the needs and feelings of others.
In the early years, sharing does not always come naturally. Young children are still developing their understanding of ownership, patience, and fairness. It is very normal for children to find waiting difficult or to feel frustrated when they cannot have something straight away.
At school, we support this by modelling simple, positive language such as “Can I have a turn when you’re finished?” or “You can have it next.” We also help children to recognise and manage their feelings, offering reassurance and guidance when things feel tricky.
Over time, with consistent support, children begin to learn that taking turns can be enjoyable and that sharing helps play to continue.
Have you noticed?
You may see your child starting to wait for short periods, offer toys to others, or use words instead of actions when they want something. These are all important steps in their social development.
At home, you might try:
Playing simple turn-taking games (e.g. board games, rolling a ball, building together)
Modelling the language of turn-taking during everyday activities
Giving a clear idea of when it will be their turn (e.g. “after me, it’s your turn”)
Acknowledging feelings: “I can see you’re finding it hard to wait”
Keeping turns short at first to support success

My name is Helen Thorp, I am a child and adolescent psychotherapist and the Therapeutic Lead for the Counselling service (SCP) here at Wood End Primary school. Come and join me on Wednesday 6th May at 9am for a relaxed workshop where we will discuss the impact of screens/technology on our children, both the benefits and the downsides. Navigating technology is one of the toughest challenges for parents today. whilst no one has all the answers, together we can share valuable wisdom and experience. My hope is that you will leave with ideas to try, some practical strategies that may work and connections made with fellow parents.
Someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Wednesdays from 9-10am. You can call/text 07429654584 or email helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
