Your weekly round up of events in school and what's coming up
I would like to inform you that Mr Reding, our Reception teacher, will sadly be leaving Wood End Primary at the end of this term. Over the years, both in Nursery and Reception, he has been a passionate and kind presence within our school community.
He has built strong relationships with the children, parents, and staff, always bringing a positive energy to everything he does. His love for music has been a hallmark of his teaching, and it’s clear to see how he has inspired the children through his creative lessons.
While we will miss him dearly, we wish him all the best in his future endeavours and are grateful for the impact he has had on many of our children, families and staff.
Kind regards,
Warner Stainbank
Thank you to all the parents that attended out Coffee Morning this week, held with Healthy food zones. Hopefully people picked up some ideas for kids snacks and packed lunches. More information can be found on https://www.schoolfoodmatters.org/what-we-do/projects/food-policy/healthy-zones.
Children had a visit to the science museum this week. The trip was very hands on and a great time was had by all.
Last week, Year 4 went to the British Museum to consolidate their learning on Ancient Greece and encourage curiosity about our new unit after Christmas, The Romans.
Children did the map workshop where they did some orienteering using map reading skills by reading coordinates. They then built shelters and linked it to history to our stone age unit and science about what humans need to survive. They also looked at different plants and trees also linked it to science and they identified deciduous and evergreen trees and how plants and trees are dormant in the winter.
As I am sure many of you are aware, Children and Young People’s mental health needs are rising exponentially and waiting lists for support are at their highest.
Our school is lucky enough to have support from the Schools Counselling Partnership who offer support to children, young people, families, parents, carers and our teaching staff.
However, school budgets are stretched which means that we have to make very tough decisions about how we spend our money. Next year our external funding for this service is being cut so now more than ever we have to look at ways to raise money so that we are able to keep this invaluable service in our schools.
This January we are inviting parents, carers, children, young people, teaching staff and Therapeutic Leads from SCP to join the Winter Walk. This takes place on Sunday 26 th January and participants can choose to walk 5km (with their families), 10km, a half-marathon or a full marathon.
It is free to register and on the day you will get: Free refreshments, Free bobble hat, A medal.
All we ask in return is that you:
Get people to sponsor you via our just giving page,
Share the just giving page on your social media pages
Thank anyone who sponsors you on your social media pages
Share any photographs from your training walks or on the day too.
This isn’t just about fundraising it also helps us to raise the profile of the service and creates a great sense of community.
Good Mental Health comes from: Exercise, Diet, Connection to others and Giving back This event ticks all of those boxes. If your New Year’s Resolution is to get fitter this is a great thing to work towards to keep you on track!
If you would like to join (on your own, with a partner or family members) just click the link below to register: https://www.ultrachallenge.com/london-winter-walk/schools-counselling-partnership/Look forward to seeing some of you there!
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of an important update regarding the building works at our Wood End Primary. Due to unforeseen delays, the completion of the building project has been postponed by approximately 8 weeks. As a result, we have had to revise some of the key dates for the moving and training days for the coming year.
The updated schedule is as follows:
Training Day: 6th January (Please note, this is a change of date)
Children Return: 7th January (Please note, this is a change of date)
Moving Day: 24th February (Please note, this is a change of date)
Moving Days: 3rd and 4th April (Extra date added, originally 7th January)
Training Day: 22nd April (No change)
Children Return: 23rd April (No change)
We understand that changes to these dates may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely apologise for any disruption this may cause to your plans. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to complete the necessary building updates. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Thank you for your continued support.
Clubs run by Teachers: If you cancel your child from one of our after activity clubs please do not offer it to classmates/friends. The office holds waitlists for the clubs as the selection process needs to be fair.
School Meal Patterns - Pupils can have either School Meal or Packed Lunch but NOT a combination of both. Parents can change a school meal pattern at the start/end of term by emailing us at admin@woodendprimaryschool.com and we will be happy to change the meal pattern. Thank you.
