Your weekly round up of events
None of this magic happens in a vacuum. I want to extend a massive thank you to our children for their resilience and infectious enthusiasm; you are the reason we do what we do. To our parents and carers, thank you for being our partners in this journey. Whether you were helping with eleventh-hour World Book Day costume prep, volunteering on trips, or simply ensuring your child arrived ready to learn, your support is the backbone of our community. We know how much effort goes into "school life" behind the scenes, and it does not go unnoticed.
This term has felt particularly vibrant. We’ve seen:
Educational Visits: Taking our learning on the road to museums, parks, and local landmarks.
Inspirational Visitors: Welcoming experts and storytellers who sparked new passions in our assemblies.
Creative Activities: From hands-on science experiments to sports fixtures, the variety has been truly impressive.
It’s been a joy to watch our pupils grow in confidence, and I hope they take this break to rest, recharge, and perhaps find a little bit of mischief (the good kind, of course).
Wishing you all a peaceful and happy holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for the Summer term, when we return on Tuesday 14th April!
Mr Stainbank
Year 2 explored their history topic on the Wright brothers, at the Science Museum to deepen their understanding. They looked at the structure of different planes, and they learned about the inventions of other people who also tried to create similar aircraft. They explored how aeroplanes have developed over the years. They also had fun in different parts of the museum, and they enjoyed educational interactive games linked to space and scientific concepts.
Year 3 learning about how people lived in Stone Age, bronze age times. looking at tools and clothes. Great to see some of the children dressed for the occasion.
Nursery and Reception had a visit from Mad for Animals. They learnt about a variety of different animals such as a cornfield snake, an African snail and a tarantula! They even got to handle some of them.
£170 was raised by children and staff this year. Thank you to all the children that participated on Friday.
Year 5 children visited Northala Hills last week as part of their learning. They had an unique opportunity to develop their Cultural Capital through a visit to our local landscape. This trip was designed to deepen their connection to the world around them in several key ways:
Local History & Evolution: Children will experience a significant local landmark from a fresh perspective, learning how our community has evolved and changed over time.
Geography & Connection: From the vantage point of the hills, pupils visually mapped their place within the local area and London. In Geography we learn about mountains and hills. Northala Fields is essentially a man-made hill designed to give Londoners a taste of the peak-climbing experience without leaving the city.
Environmental Science: In class we explore the vital systems that sustain us, from the hidden deep aquifers providing our water to the complex networks of local waterways.

Constant criticism, humiliation or ignoring a child’s feelings can be just as harmful as physical harm. Children need warmth, praise and consistency. If parenting ever feels overwhelming, please ask for help — support is always available and never a sign of failure.
Breaks from school can actually feel quite stressful for children, especially with all the disruption to the start of the year and their regular schedules and routines are again disrupted. As we head into a longer holiday, here are some tips on how to minimise the tears and maximise the joy at home.
How can parents help?
As always with parenting, it is most important to look after yourself first. Make sure your own cup isn’t full so you can stay calm. You can also let them know in advance what they will be doing over the holiday and remind them again every morning the plans for that day. Many children will also do better if you keep to some routine and schedule every day, to offer them some predictability. If you can, always include some outdoor or physical activity every day as it helps them to stay regulated. Finally, remember to do less and connect more!
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen Thorp for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Wednesdays from 9-10am.You can call/text 07429654584 or email helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
Easter Holidays: Keeping it Simple 🐣
The upcoming Easter break is a lovely opportunity to slow down and enjoy time together. In EYFS, some of the most valuable learning happens through simple, everyday experiences — there is no need for worksheets or formal tasks.
Children learn best through play, talk, and exploration. Whether you are out and about or spending time at home, these shared moments support language, confidence, and curiosity
If you’re looking for a few easy ideas, you might like to try:
An Easter egg hunt – great for counting and using language like “under”, “behind” and “next to”
Baking together – supports early maths, communication, and following instructions
A spring walk – look for signs of new life and talk about what you can see and hear
Simple crafts – cutting, sticking and creating all help to develop fine motor skills
These activities don’t need to be elaborate — it’s the conversation, play, and time spent together that make the biggest difference.
We hope you have a restful and enjoyable break.

To ensure a safe and organised environment for all our pupils, we would like to remind parents and carers of our on-site parking guidelines. Please note that parking within the school grounds is exclusively permitted for families of children attending Breakfast Club and After School Club during their respective drop-off and pick-up windows.
For the safety of our children and staff, it is vital that all drivers adhere to a strict 5 mph speed limit while on the premises. We also ask that you remain respectful of fellow drivers and pedestrians by ensuring you only park within allocated spaces. Avoiding unauthorised areas helps prevent congestion and keeps our site accessible for emergency vehicles.
