A massive well done to our two Year 6 dodgeball teams who competed against Greenwood Primary this week! While we didn't take home the trophy this time, both teams played with incredible determination, team spirit, and sportsmanship. We couldn't be prouder of their hard work—fantastic effort, everyone!
Parent workshop with Helen Thorp – supporting your child’s emotional regulation.
My name is Helen Thorp, I am a child and adolescent psychotherapist and I the
Therapeutic Lead here at Wood End Primary school.
Come and join me on Wednesday 4th November 2026 at 9am for a relaxed 30-minute workshop on helping you and your child understand and manage big feelings. Together, we’ll explore what emotional regulation really means, how to recognise when your child is overwhelmed, and simple, practical ways to support calm and connection at home.
As part of our Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme and our Play Policy playtimes and lunchtimes at Wood End typically take place outdoors in all weathers. Playing outside every day is a vital part of children’s wellbeing, development and enjoyment of school, so it is important that everyone is dressed appropriately.
To help us with this, please ensure your child has:
a waterproof coat in school every day, even when the forecast looks dry
a change of shoes or wellies, kept in school, for playing on the grass areas of the playground
Each year group now has a clearly labelled bench in the playground for storing spare shoes and wellies. We will be showing the children where to find these. Please make sure all items are clearly named so they can be returned to their owners.
Indoor wet play will only be used in exceptionally wet weather. Staff will also be dressing for the weather, and we are talking with the children about why this matters.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Last week we celebrated Black History Month by spending the whole day learning about the Empire Windrush and its significance for Britain. We discussed why people from the Caribbean might have wanted to migrate to Britain and how they were treated by some people when they arrived. This helped us reflect on the importance of equality and community how these values are foundational to Wood End's culture. All year groups created written work or art around the topic, including letters home, fact files and a wonderful ship from Reception. You will be able to see what your child has produced at parent's evening as we will have a special exhibition displaying their work.
Ms Brooks launched the activity passport initiative last week in school. You can purchase an Activity Passport in the school shop on Arbor week.
Chloe has received her's this week and will be filling it over half term.
Year 3 have been reading Mrs Armitage on Wheels in class. The children first write their sentences about an incident in the story on their whiteboards using their whiteboard pens, allowing them to make changes and edit their work easily.
Once they are happy with their writing, they carefully produce their final piece in their English books, using their best handwriting.
You will have the opportunity to see their wonderful English books during parent consultations in November!
Dear iRock parents, mark your calendars... your child’s iRock concert is coming up!
We are thrilled to let you know that we are hosting our end-of-term concert for Wood End Primary School on 7th December at 9:00 am.
Your child’s band will perform the song they have been working so hard on all term. This performance is a key part of the iRock experience; it’s a great opportunity for the children to showcase what they have been learning and celebrate their achievements in a supportive environment. Look forward to seeing you there!
IROCK TEAM
We all know that regular attendance helps children learn. It also helps us keep them safe. When a child is in school each day, we see how they are, notice small changes and can step in early if something isn’t right.
That’s why a pattern of absence matters to us, and why we’ll always get in touch with kindness rather than judgement. Sometimes there’s a practical reason behind it, such as illness, worries about school, or pressures at home, and we may be able to help.
National guidance now refers to this kind of early support as “Family Help”: getting the right help to families sooner, before difficulties grow.
If attendance is becoming hard for your family, please talk to us. We’d much rather work it out together.
Kind Regards
Chris Best
We are excited to be launching our new Little Steps, Big Changes initiative across Nursery and Reception after half term!
This initiative will focus on helping our youngest children develop independence, confidence and important everyday life skills. Every two weeks, we will introduce a new focus, encouraging children to practise small but important skills both at school and at home.
We will also be introducing EYFS Parent Coffee Mornings, providing opportunities to share practical tips, discuss common challenges and work together to support our children.
We want to hear from you! Our coffee mornings will be shaped by the questions, concerns and topics that matter most to our families. We will be introducing parent comment and question boxes, where you can share suggestions or ask questions anonymously. Your feedback will help us plan sessions that are relevant and useful to you.
Watch this space! We will be sharing more information very soon about how you can get involved and help make little steps lead to big changes!
After half term Willow Class will have P.E. days on Monday, and Beech Class will have P.E. on Wednesday. Children should come to school in their P.E. Kits. House T-shirts are available from Kevins Uniform in Greenford Broadway. https://kevins-schoolwear.co.uk/greenford-store/
