On Wednesday, as part of our Anti-Bullying Week, Wood End Primary School participated in Positive Noticing Day. We spent some time during the day thinking about the power of positive noticing. It is simple, practical, and highly effective. Being positively noticed by others builds self-esteem, supports behaviour and promotes good mental health. We encouraged pupils and staff to positively notice one another throughout the day.
We encourage families to join in at home too. You can write positive notes for family members on luggage labels, post it notes or pieces of paper. We know that children who are positively noticed by their parents/carers are happier, healthier and more resilient and secure. You may wish to use Positive Noticing Day as an opportunity to start daily positive noticing in your home. You can create and share positive labels as a family and save them - stick them on the fridge, the back of the door or put them in an old picture frame.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
● ‘I noticed that you put your plate by the sink, that’s really helped me this morning, you are very thoughtful, thank you’
● ‘Doing your homework without me asking shows real independence. I love the determination you are showing’
● ‘You are so good at sharing with your sister/brother. You are such a kind person.’
● ‘I noticed that you were really kind to X at school today. That made me really proud of you’
● ‘Thank you for putting your clothes in the washing basket. I notice that you are following the routine and remembering it perfectly. You are really trying and I appreciate it.'
We hope your child enjoyed the day, and we want to say that ‘we notice you’ and the effort you make to support your children, engage them in learning and enrich our school community! For more information click:https://youtu.be/5O04BwNBnf8
Thank you.
Mr Best

Cedar class had a fantastic time during positive noticing day! All the children wrote ‘tags of kindness’ and shared it with a partner.
They had lovely things to say about each other!
Children will finish at 3.30pm instead of 3.20pm from Week Commencing Monday 18th November 2024.
Thank you to all those who supported the British Legion Poppy Appeal Charity this week. Children learned about the remembering those lost in War and wearing a poppy shows our support for the service and sacrifice of our armed forces, veterans and their families.
Children have been reading and listening to the story RED HEN. A story of a Hen who needs help with cooking. What happens in the story? You will need to read the book! The children got to make and mix the ingredients and watch the bread cook in the oven. Some parents may even had got to taste it at home.

Nurturing Yourself While Nurturing Your Child
Self-care is essential for all parents. Not only to stay patient, but also to keep finding joy and delight that is present every day with your children- even on the difficult ones. Children are happier and will cooperate more when you are joyful, calm and present. When you are feeling stressed, they may believe it is their fault, feel anxious and that they are not good enough. Your big job then, is to make sure you are parenting yourself just as well as you are parenting your child.
How can parents help?
Try to tune into yourself as much as possible throughout the day. Take deep breaths whenever you can, breathing in calm and breathing out stress. When you are feeling irritable, it is important to stop and think about what it is you need right now to stay balanced: can you sit outside for 5mins or put on some music and dance? Have a glass of water? Plan something you can do for yourself later, once they are in bed? You can also find ways to nurture yourself through times in the day that tend to be most difficult. Perhaps you can drink a cup of tea during bedtime stories or start evening routine a little earlier. Finally, being present and slowing down will help you to take in the joy of every moment with your child and will replenish your spirit.
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to. If you would like to meet Helen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, she is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays 9-10am. You can call/text Helen on 07429 654584 or email her at helen@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk

Guru Nanak Birthday
A lot of people will also celebrating Guru Nanak's 555th Birthday this weekend with a trip to the temple (Gudwara), Guru Nanak - the founder of Sikhism was born in 1469 in a small town in India called Talwandi. Sikhs and other Indians participate in festivities to honor the life and teachings of the Guru who reminded us of the importance of compassion, unity, and equality.
