Every child possesses a unique spark, and we are thrilled to give our pupils the stage to share their amazing talents with the whole school community! Whether in art, music, sports, science, or creative performance, this is a wonderful opportunity for our young learners to step into the spotlight and feel genuinely proud of their accomplishments. By sharing their passions, our children truly embody our school values—learning to DREAM big, BELIEVE in themselves, and ACHIEVE greatness together. We can’t wait to celebrate all the incredible things they have to offer!
Ms Brooks launched the activity passport initiative this week in school. You can purchase an Activity Passport in the school shop on Arbor next week.
Parent workshop with Helen Thorp – supporting your child’s emotional regulation.
My name is Helen Thorp, I am a child and adolescent psychotherapist and I the
Therapeutic Lead here at Wood End Primary school.
Come and join me on Wednesday 4th November 2026 at 9am for a relaxed 30-minute workshop on helping you and your child understand and manage big feelings. Together, we’ll explore what emotional regulation really means, how to recognise when your child is overwhelmed, and simple, practical ways to support calm and connection at home.
Reception held a workshop this week for parents to help their child with motor and hand writing skills. Developing these skills, children strengthen their independence, creativity, and ability to access the full curriculum. But developing these skills involves practice, time and lots and lots of repetition. It’s important to provide plenty of opportunities within your learning environment to help nurture children motor skills in a variety of ways.
This week we are supporting the anti-racism educational charity Show Racism the Red Card. Thank you for your support. WEAR RED on Thursday 15th October 2026
We raised a £180 for the charity Jeans for Genes Day in September.
Thank you to everyone that donated. It is definately a popular day with the children.
Get involved and make a difference! Our new school lottery is a fantastic opportunity for our whole community—parents, carers and teachers alike—to come together and give back. All funds raised go directly into enriching our children’s school experience, from improved facilities to dynamic extracurricular programs in sport, music, and art. We deeply appreciate your support and wish everyone the very best of luck!
We all know that regular attendance helps children learn. It also helps us keep them safe. When a child is in school each day, we see how they are, notice small changes and can step in early if something isn’t right.
That’s why a pattern of absence matters to us, and why we’ll always get in touch with kindness rather than judgement. Sometimes there’s a practical reason behind it, such as illness, worries about school, or pressures at home, and we may be able to help.
National guidance now refers to this kind of early support as “Family Help”: getting the right help to families sooner, before difficulties grow.
If attendance is becoming hard for your family, please talk to us. We’d much rather work it out together.
Kind Regards
Chris Best
Home learning is an important part of your child's journey in EYFS. Spending just a little time each week reading, talking and practising new skills together can make a real difference to their confidence, independence and progress. It also helps children see that learning doesn't just happen at school!
Reading Books: Your child receives two levelled reading books each week. We ask that you spend time reading these together at home and sign their reading record so we know they have been read. Regular reading, even for just 5–10 minutes a day, helps build fluency, confidence and a love of reading.
Library Books: Your child also brings home a library book chosen for enjoyment. These books are not levelled, so they are a lovely opportunity to share a story, talk about the pictures and enjoy reading together. Please ensure the book is returned and the reading record signed on your child's library day.
Weekly Homework: Homework is sent home every Friday and should be returned by Wednesday. These activities are designed to reinforce what children are learning in school and give you a chance to share in their learning.
A little reminder: If you're unsure which days your child changes their reading or library books, please speak to your class teacher. Alternatively, sending their books and reading record in every day will ensure they're ready to be changed on the correct day.
Thank you for your continued support. These small, regular routines at home really do make a big difference, and we appreciate everything you do to support your child's learning!

NEW: A Guide to Schooling in Ealing – Resources for Families
We are pleased to share two new resources developed to help parents and carers understand the British education system, how to apply for a school place and how they can support their child’s learning and development. Although particularly helpful for families who are new to the UK education system, the guides contain valuable information for all parents and carers, covering everything from school admissions and the curriculum to attendance, parental involvement and accessing additional support.
There are two versions available – a short, easy-to-read quick guide and a more comprehensive guide, both available in print and online formats. Schools are encouraged to use these resources in whatever way works best for their communities, whether sharing them with new families, including them in welcome packs, displaying them on school websites or using them to support conversations with parents.
Please share these resources with relevant colleagues and help us make them available to as many families as possible.
